The "correct" way to use nitro and drift

I am trying to win the hunter race in chapter 17 (event 9, Track Down) where the opponent is a Ferrari Italia and I've lost about 20 races so far. Now my car has a better PR (862 vs 847) so there must be something wrong with my technique.

I am asking, in general, what is the best way to use nitro in races? I usually use nitro in the beginning of race (so that I can accelerate quicker) and then sometimes during drifts and sometimes after exiting the drift. I never wait for the nitro to become full. Seems like I am doing it all wrong and I can use some guidance.

  • First of all, I don't know the correct way since it is not known how exactly nitro behaves. And you may have noticed that AI races differently, for example it does not lose as much speed in corners and can take much sharper turns (even while airborn). But a few tips:

    - yes, nitro can help you accelerate

    - try to find other sources of nitro, like jumps, near misses and so on

    - nitro can help you reach a speed otherwise unreachable, which you soon drop when turning; you may try to fire the nitro at the beginning of a longer straight course - you reach top speed faster and you can maintain it even when nitro dies out

And some more regarding hunter races:

    - having better PR does not grant success in a hunter race, since your opponent already has an advantage. Having to boost your PR for 100+ points just because of one single race (already labeled as easy) is something very frustrating, but reality

    - therefore, do not even look at suggested difficulty rating

    - if you do not reach your opponent while racing without apparent errors, then you need a car upgrade more than just a change of technique

    - if you reach him, but still can't win, you may try to bump him - it won't help many times, but sometimes it may, and sometimes it is the only chance you have

Don't crash or touch the "the periphery" of the road.

Try to do drifting and jumps as much as possible (to gain Nitro faster).

Just fire the Nitro(by Swiping Up) every second. (LOL! Yes, your finger may start hurting you.)  Don't bother to do it(starting the Nitro) "at right moment".

I am sure this technique will help you to win this event!

  • In my case it definitely takes the nitro more than a second to actually replenish enough to be fired again. And I doubt the nudge it gives you when firing it often enough can offset the benefits of riding under nitro and reaching higher speed.

Well, everybody have their own technique, all of them can work, my personal experience is when you drift you lose velocity, so don't need to drift at all, use the nitro as soon is recharged every where, jumping, cornering, and if you are not able to catch or win your opponent you should upgrade your car.

In my own experience I almost always win vs opponents with PR higher than me, in underground bosses and in tournament races.

    Happy racing!!

  • I won that race yesterday after 15 attempts. All I had to do was to get the basics right:

    • Do not hit or even touch traffic and police cars
    • Do not hit any the walls
    • Find the perfect racing line for that track and stick to it
    • Time your cornering properly

As for my question about best way to use nitro and drift, I agree with that there is no best way. Drifting is good as long as you keep the radius as short as possible. Using nitro in short or long bursts does not matter as long as it is used at the right time (along the straighter stretches of road or when you want to overtake your opponent).

Ps: if someone is having difficulty getting past chapter 17 event 9 I have some good news:

    Spoiler
You will run into exact same hunter race in chapter 18 event 6; same track, same start and ending point, same opponent car; only that the opponent car will be 775-ish PR. No cops.

Hunter races are always the most difficult ones.

I had one at Chapter 11 just before the boss race. Really wanted to get to Chapter 12 and was getting very frustrated.

    1. That race has a lot of turns. Drift them as the speed while drifting or turning is around the same.

    2. Now you have a lot of Nitro, use them just at the exit of the drifts towards straights. Your car is already pointing straight at the end of the drift a little earlier than when you don't drift.

    3. Don't hit anybody or anything as there are cops and traffic and lot of curves.

The toughest race for me so far. It was a medium for me with i having 20 more PR. This was even more frustrating as in tournaments i was winning even with 60 PR lesser on my car.

So basically Nitro is the most important part. Upgrade that first. 😇

I do not agree with this part of advice. Nitro is almost always the last part I upgrade. Reasons:

    - both top speed and acceleration work with or without nitro (that is, whole race)

    - both have much higher impact on cars PR, which means you sooner fulfill PR limits, if there are any

    - it seems cars performance depends on total PR only and not on its parts
