Not really, it’s not like older gen consoles where the game plays off the disc. When you insert a disc in a PS4 or Xbox One, the game gets copied onto the hard drive and plays off the hard drive. There’s no advantage when it comes to loading times between discs and digital downloads because they both are installed on the hard drive before you even get to play. That’s why there’s still a lot of people buying discs, just look at stores on Black Friday for video games. Still, cross-platform is ultimately up to developers. Sony says it’s good for cross-platform play but if EA doesn’t implement it, then it won’t happen. If that where the case, we would see PC and Xbox One play online together because they are both on Microsoft’s platform, but EA hasn’t added it, even though it is technically easy to do.

They would make more money selling the game if it was cross platform. I say this because now people that normally can't play together because they play on different systems can, and a friend that usually would not buy the game would so they can play with friends on different systems.
