JANUARY UPDATE & THE ROAD AHEAD

Stability fixes and more

Welcome to 2023, NFS Fam! We’re excited to be back in action after a little break, and we’re comin’ in hot with an update to address some stability issues for Need for Speed™ Unbound. As we mentioned back in December, we’re also working towards rolling out our live service for NFS Unbound. First things first, let’s focus on the January Update.

What’s in the update?

Need for Speed Unbound Update 1.1.4 (aka the January Update) delivers stability improvements, some balancing changes for a couple of cars, and more.

BALANCING

Golf GTI 1976

  • Rebalanced the Volkswagen Golf GTI (1976) to reduce its acceleration in high gears
  • Fixed an issue with the Volkswagen Golf GTI (1976) that caused its gearbox options to not affect its top speed, as expected

Koenigsegg Regera

  • Reduced the top-end acceleration of the Koenigsegg Regera and adjusted its cornering ability

VOIP

  • Improved the quality of VOIP for our PS5 players

SAVE GAME ERROR/PROGRESS RESET

  • Added a warning message when the game fails to autosave correctly to reduce potential of lost progress

PC MIN SPECS WARNING

  • Added a warning message when the game detects a below min spec configuration

STABILITY IMPROVEMENTS

  • Multiple stability improvements to reduce the potential for game crashes

The Road Ahead

As mentioned in December 2022, we will be delivering a series of free content updates that will include new features, experiences, content drops and more. We are currently working hard on delivering our first content update to Lakeshore and are looking forward to sharing more details with you in March!

The feedback, suggestions, bugs & issues you report - and your participation in the global Need for Speed community - continue to drive our ongoing work and we’re excited y’all are along for the ride with us. So, buckle up and hit the gas - the road ahead is wide open.

See you in Lakeshore!

The Regera is still the fastest thing, the Golf even after being tweaked is still just as fast if not faster on some tracks.

But yet things like running 900hp+ cars in B class and so on is still fine apparently because it will top out at only 130-ish because there's nothing like someone who just started playing online to get bent over by B class lobbies that are only 488 Pista's and so on.

Cars will still vanish sometimes from your garage so you're just screwed outta the money for it, some people will still get spammed with M3 GTR's every time they launch their game while some people don't get it at all.

Stuff makes no sense online in this game, making pennies each race unless you abuse the other methods or join all the other people who are abusing the cars with broken tuning.

It's at the point online is already just not that fun since the majority of races are just people abusing bugs, if you want anything that's outside of a starter car you will be spending all night to get it and upgrade it while some cars are locked behind stuff that will take casual players probably weeks to do the number of races needed.

Also, another couple of months of radio silence before another update?
If this first one is anything to go by it seems like it's really not worth it, already feels like it's gonna be ANOTHER NFS game that gets like 12 months of "updates" but over that time you can count them on one hand with next to no content added.

@MechanicalSlime Since dev Criterion already fell apart again after Unbound flopped as hell there's nobody to take over the halfly-done rubbish with fixes. It will be another game with few recycled content updates.NFS has been stuck in a fail cycle of rushed dev come up with EA's vision of 2000s street racing game in a halfly-done state+rubbish sales number leading to EA decision of dropping the failed entry. If next team can't come up with a fundimentally flawless game then they will be the next buy rush kill victim because EA won't give them time to fix the mess after release.(Since current NFS is too focused on custom rather than good race/chase system it's reasonable to fail)
  • Lol without cops I might as well just play forza horizon. Shoulda kept my money

    Prove me wrong!

The update in general didn't do anything, but what is once again proof for me that there are too many fakers and cheaters in the game happened about 2 hours ago, S+ race Headspin, my opponent has a Ford Focus RS (2016) on level S +331 and I my car Lamborghini Countach 2021 on level S+ 400. The race starts and this Ford shoots forward that at first I doubted myself. What is wrong here, the display of opponent's cars, S+331, because I also have a Ford Focus, but at level S+400 it has much worse acceleration and top speed than the Lamborghini! I quit after this race, he should drive the other 2 races alone. I want to have fun in the races, that means losing, winning, but tight races and not those races where the opponent is already at the end and I don't even finish it. But EA will not fix this problem in any update.

I really don't know, why there is no open Communication from Criterion to the Players of their Game..

It feels like the next Weeks of Silence just begun and the next Infos from the Devs will be in March. Then this Game is dead for me.

I think the game is great and they've made the best need for speed in years.  I know some are asking for  features and nonsense only them and 3 other people care about out of the millions that bought the game, BUT the devs need to stop lying, overhyping every little update and be TRANSPARENT with what's coming..  And for the record you seem to be making a push for online play.  Thats not traditionally what has mead NFS games popular and it never will.  Leave that to the sims instead of tacking on garbage.

There hidden files in the game files that hint at some KS kits and some other single player stuff.  Work on that instead of trying to make a live service game, which it will never be.  Focus on the strengths.

EA better get their act together or they will go the same route Ubisoft is going.  That studio is circling the drain, with only a small number of titles keeping it afloat.  Stop lying , overhyping and be honest with what people will be getting or not getting or get bought out and clear cutted by the likes of Tencent.  Man if you give a crap about your jobs start standing up to your managers, voice your concerns or unionize.
