Crash to desktop when using map

Product: Need for Speed: Unbound
Platform:PC
Summarize your bug When using the map, sometimes just entering the map, but mostly when hovering playlists or interacting with playlist to place waypoint. the game freezes, music keeps playing then it crashes to desktop with no error code.
How often does the bug occur? Occasionally (10% - 49%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Interacting with the map, opening the map, choosing a playlist to set a waypoint, hovering playlists and events. More often when using the map from the garage I think.
What happens when the bug occurs? The game freezes, can't click on anything or move cursor around ( I am playing with a controller ) but the sound keeps going. Then it crashes to desktop with no error.
What do you expect to see? Well I expect the game not to crash, and that using the map shouldn't be a stressful thing where I don't know when it will crash next.

I get this pretty randomly when playing with my friend who also gets the same crash. Doesn't seem to have any trigger that I can find, maybe more often when interacting with the map from the garage. ( It does also happen in story mode, not just online ).

Simply interacting with the map in any way, opening it, or hovering / choosing playlists to set waypoint. Game freezes for a couple seconds then crashes to desktop with no error.

  • @StonescarFirebay Happening to me as well after Vol8 update... Didn't experience this in Vol7, no chances have happened to my system except Nvidia driver update to recent release (v560.94). Tested playing other games to see if the Nvidia driver update caused issues, but other games run smoothly (no crashed to desktop or graphical issues). 100% caused with vol8 patch

    Hey @IL_Nectum @StonescarFirebay

To confirm can you try the following steps if you have not already?\

    1. Run the System File Checker tool, then Check for Windows and GPU updates
    2. Default your PC to the dedicated Graphics card: Troubleshooting Graphics issues
    3. If there’s an option available, try capping your frame rate. You can also enable Vertical Sync (V-Sync), to match your frame rate to your display’s refresh rate.
    4.  Repair the game files in the EA app. Go to the Library and find your game. Click the Manage icon, then click Repair.
    5. Clear EA App's Cache (Top Left Menu > Help > App Recovery)
    6. Check if any background applications are stopping the EA app or your game.
    7. Perform a clean boot of your PC to disable background tasks that may be interfering with your game.

If this continues would it be possible to get a copy of your PC save via a DM (hove over my name and select "Send Message"), you can share a google drive or drop box link if possible.

  • Look, it's the game, plain and simple and it's a bug. Everything on my system is running fine: all applications and games have zero issues. It didn't occur in vol7 update. It's introduced in the vol8 patch. Have the devs check for it, it's not on our end.
