Deadzone producing imaginary values

Product: Need for Speed: Unbound
Platform:Xbox Series X
Summarize your bug Deadzone (in-game settings) reverting to imaginary value upon launch.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? From the main menu, access the in-game settings > controls > deadzone and select any custom value. Save the setting by exiting the menu. Force quit the game and launch it. Enter the deadzone settings from the main menu again, and scroll to the left or right.
What happens when the bug occurs? The deadzone value splits into imaginary values that vary from the last saved preset. This is due to said imaginary values always being present between 23% and 24% deadzone.
What do you expect to see? The value should remain unchanged from the previous entry.

The default values should be adjustable in increments of .5% (two options per whole number) such as in NFS Heat. While this is true for all other values, options between 23% and 24% deadzone are 23.0%, 23.33%, and 23.66% (three instead of two options). When applying a custom deadzone (mine is 26.5%) and restarting the game, I have to reset the deadzone to its default of 22.5% and readjust it, as it will have changed from 26.5% to 26.66% which is distinguishable in gameplay.

  • I set the Deadzone to 0 on the PS5 and i had no problems with that but on the Xbox with the Elite 2 Controller the Car gets turning in the menu all the time..

I had 2 brandnew Elite controller at this time and this was happening on both of them.

Even when i tilt the Controller a little bit, which is normal i think when i hold the controller, the car turns in that direction i tilt the controller 🤦🏽‍♂️

Can you please seperate Deadzone for left and right Trigger please?

  • Happens on PC.

If you adjust gamepad's deadzone to less than 12%, the gamepad controls just die until you switch it back to around 13% using keyboard controls.

    Why does this even happen?

  • Nice to see the dev team have gave you answers. Not!

I have times where the I lose control of the view stick, meaning all of a sudden, not even touch the right stick, it is like something is moving the view control, but i see only the colour of the wheels spinning. It has fkd up my races so many times

    Hi @HarGabt

Can we try going through the following and check if this continues?

@EA_Illium I think I have figured it out what was causing the issue:

I have 2 Xbox gamepads connected to PC: first is Xbox 360 automatically assigned as Player 1 and second one is the aforementioned Xbox One gamepad, both wired and connected to PC.

I go to Controls settings, and with One gamepad I start changing deadzone with d-pad down to 13% (or lower, it may vary), and at this moment game stops reacting to One gamepad, until I change the value to a higher one using keyboard or the 360 gamepad which unexpectedly works fine with such values.

This issue doesn't happen if 360 gamepad is assigned to Player 2 and One gamepad still being connected to PC.

    Go figure.

Summarize your bug Controller deadzone in settings reverts to a new value when adjusted.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Pause>settings>controls>deadzone Adjust to 21%, 23%, 26% Close the game
What happens when the bug occurs? Deadzone reverts to a different value than the previously selected value. Values 21-21.5%, 23-23.5%, and 26-26.5% are all bugged. Values increase or decrease to an imaginary value when game is restarted, such as 21.33% or 23.66%
What do you expect to see? Each value should only be adjustable by increments of .5% ranging from 0-30.5%. Values should remain unchanged when saved in settings.

Bug has been present since the game launched. Previous title (NFS Heat) did not have this issue when the deadzone setting was added. There may be other values in the deadzone range that are similarly bugged. It's become a hassle resetting the deadzone to default before every session just to retain the desired value. There is a noticeable difference in gameplay when values are inconsistent. This can be replicated on any platform.
