NFS: Unbound Launches to black screen, then closes
I own NFS: Unbound Palace Edition on Steam. I'm trying to play it for the first time. When I press play on Steam, the EA app opens, the game window opens to a black screen, sometimes the window is 1/4 the size of my monitor, sometimes it goes fullscreen, then after 1-10 seconds it closes, then the EA app may show up and stay there or close too.
Things I have tried:
-reinstalling the game
-verifying game files in both Steam and EA app
-running both Steam and the EA app as administrator
-disabling the overlays for both Steam and EA app
-updating GPU drivers
-disabling Windows firewall
-adding NFS: Unbound to firewall exceptions
-deleting the game's shader cache files both in the game files and My Documents, as well as the LocalAppData folder
-installing the EA app on my PC independently of the game and launching the game from there
Specs:
-EVGA GeForce RTX 3080
-Intel i7 13700K
-32GB DDR4 RAM
-Game installed on WD Black SN850X M.2 SSD
Any help would be appreciated. I would like to attach the latest CrashDump log that was created, but apparently the file type is unsupported on these forums. The game generates them each time the black window opens and closes.
Okay, I think I've solved the issue, the game launches now, here's how I fixed it:
Download Intel XTU and lower your Performance Core Ratio from its default by 1 until the game works. So my Intel i7 13700K was set to 53x by default, lowering it to 52x fixed it.
This actually solved tons of other random CTDs I was getting in games. Issue is it wasn't every game, some would run flawlessly. Apparently, 13th and 14th gen Intel chips have this widespread issue and many, many people report that lowering the PCR fixes it for them. I'll probably end up RMAing my CPU though.
Hope this helps anyone else who stumbles upon this thread.
