You don't get to be a billion dollar company by adding everything into your game, unfortunately; I reckon this all boils down to licensing costs vs return.
A huge swath of new gear was added for players this year though - obviously it doesn't help you right now but its a sign of good things to come next year, I hope.

@TTZ_DipsyNo; you get to be a billion company by making good games. EA NHL used to be that from the 90s-2014, but now it’s slipping. NHL 23 is essentially a patch for NHL 22. There’s no RoI when you already have the rights for the equipment for the game. Im over hoping they would do more with goalies and just want them to do it already.

Their competition left the market completely in 2014. Knowing that, EA knew it had no competition and anyone who wanted an NHL game had to go though them. If another company started making NHL games, EA would lose tons of cash as they would be easily outperformed.
