EASHL Goalies Short-Side

The EASHL AI goalies need some attention when it comes to sharp-angle short-side shots.  Situations where the shooter has no options to pass or move to the front of the net should be low-danger chances with the goalie taking away the short-side.  Instead the goalies seem determined to open up as many holes as possible to allow bad shots through.

Example 1:  This close to the goalie and with no other options there should be nothing to shoot at, but the goalie makes sure to create some gaps for the shot.  On a side note, why did the goalie poke that puck into play instead of covering it?

Example 2:  Not as close-quarters but the shooter still had limited options.  Again the goalie is opening up holes  trying to make a blocker save ( that would only stop shots going wide ) instead of closing off the short side.

  • This needs to be fixed.  This was an overtime winner for my club.  It doesn't appear that the defender running into the goalie impeded him in any way, the goalie is just unable to squeeze up against the post when it's called for.

  • @PlayoffErrorIt exists because if the goalie hugged closer to the post then cross crease returns or the far side snipe. I've said it year after year. You want 1 change it opens up another.

@KlariskraysNHL Then it's a poor trade-off by the devs. These should be nothing plays. In two of the three videos I've posted there is absolutely no threat of a far-side shot or a cross crease pass so the goalie shouldn't be worrying about that. The goalie should be taking away the easy play here.

And honestly I think the goalies are way too good against cross-crease plays this year. Especially compared to how weak they are to short-side nothing plays. The solution to the cross-crease "problem" should always be to give defenders in good position the tools to break up the pass, not make the goalies so ready to jump across the net that they give up easily stopped shots on the short-side.

@PlayoffError It's been in the game as long as it's been on PS4/XB1.

It's just how the game has been programmed. You should see when you do a tic tac toe the goalie is so far 1 side on the pass back it's funny. Just their limitations on how goalies are programmed. Shooting and Goalies would need completely reworked for better results.

But you know this happens and they think Oh let's make it happen in the game more than usual.

@KlariskraysNHL Yeah, it just seems so much worse in NHL 23 than other years. It's frustrating to take away any good scoring options from your opponent only to have the goalie give up one of these goals because they absolutely refuse to seal off the post when it's called for.
