When we have some news, an update will be provided. If you'd like to go through some troubleshooting, let me know. It would be good to do that as we're not seeing a high amount of reports on this.

@EA_Aljo Sure sure. I doubt there is nothing i haven't done but let's see. What you suggest?

Are you playing on a wired or wireless connection? Also, can you list the steps you've tried so far?
- 3 years ago@EA_Aljo
Wired connection(cat6) and controller
upnp enabled on router
tried 2 different latest hdmi cables
using MSI Optix G273QF esports monitor
tried brand new controller (updated)
power cycled console
router is updated to latest firmware
tried different DNS hosts
Might forgot something but nothing has helped. - 3 years ago
I have looked for 3 days on where to report this issue so maybe thats why you don't habe so many reports
- 3 years ago@violablespoon Yeah reddit for example has plenty of posts recently about this.

Does your router support QoS (Quality of Service)? Also, what mode(s) are you experiencing the delay in?
@bugabugabooboo @bugabugabooboo
If you'd like to go through some troubleshooting, let me know what system you're playing on and if a wired or wireless connection is being used.

I have only my xbox and PC connected to the router and im never downloading anything when im gaming. Didn't find QoS setting but it wouldn't do much in this case as there is no other traffic. The delay is in HUT and WOC.

Are you using one of those modem/router combo units from your ISP? They tend to not use equipment designed with gaming in mind so I'm not surprised QoS is missing. Have you tried clearing the alternate MAC address? Follow these steps if not:
Go to your Xbox Settings
Go to "Network", then "Advanced Network Settings"
Click on "Alternate MAC Address", and then click "Clear"Also, do you happen to have Dolby Vision for Gaming enabled? Disable that if you do.
- 3 years ago
@EA_AljoNo.
It isn't my routers fault jeez what are you saying? QoS only works when there is other traffic as it prioritized crowded connection to allow certain apps or deviced to use more bandwidth. My xbox has full bandwidth so i don't really understand what you are trying to imply here. It's not ISP bundled router either.
No dolby vision enabled.Edit: Router has QoS enabled by default, asked manufacturer.

Thanks for those details. At this time, we're not aware of any issues and we're receiving a relatively low number of reports about this. We'll keep an eye on this. Do you notice any difference when plugging in your controller?
- 3 years ago
@EA_Aljo
No change wireless or wired. And you don't receive reports because no one knows how to report these issues. Like i said people mainly go to reddit when they have issues and all the subs have multiple posts about this so it isn't just some one off issue. I have feeling you know it's an issue but there isn't nothing you can do about it. It's been issue since the switch to dedicated servers and somehow it's acceptable to have delayed gameplay year after year. At least add servers to the main countries that play the damn game. - EA_Aljo3 years ago

People definitely know how to report these issues. I'm not saying that everyone that experiences this does so, but when there's an issue that the majority of the community is experiencing, we hear about it. Connection problems can be very challenging to track down just due to the very high number of variables involved. Our servers are just one part of it and when we see a high number of people connecting and continuing to stay connected, it doesn't really point to problems on our end. It could also be the equipment you're using, the equipment in your area from your ISP, the bandwidth in your area, the traffic on your network, your TV, HDMI/ethernet cables, the backbone used by your ISP, etc. I know for me personally, my connection got a huge improvement when I stopped using the modem/router provided by my ISP. I'm not saying that's going to fix this for you, but it's possible.
- 3 years ago@EA_Aljo
You are very ignorant. I already told you it's NOT provided by ISP and it works fine. My ping is flatline 22ms in game. I have absolutely no issues playing anything else than nhl. Games that require 5 times more bandwidth works without issues. - EA_Aljo3 years ago

I've been pretty detailed and polite about this, but I started this thread and added a METRIC TON of information, including clips and ideas and inconsistencies, and I haven't even gotten one direct reply. I have to watch the conversation get steered away from what I said and to QoS nonsense to totally bury what I said. C'mon.
There's no way actually engage with someone knowledgable and helpful on this. It's this (getting the runaround) or an email into the void without reply. The customer service is putrid.

I posted so much in the old NHL 22 thread (https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Input-lag/m-p/11707316) about this issue and EA hasen't done anything to improve the situation in NHL 23, you even still deny that there is a problem. Even worse, somebody must have increased lag compensation since the patch, fat man lag is worse than ever, my opponents are backwards skating via L2 while my players skate in mud not being able to do anything....just so frustrating. Besides that, on the Western Europe server on PS5, it's very hard to find opponents so obviously the development team didn't study the user base either before implementing skill based search. Overall, NHL 23 is just such a mess and it starts with all the technical issues and glitches. As long as EA won't own this, the game won't improve and you'll lose customers/players.

If I delete another game, say MLB: The Show (or even just clear data), it reboots the game from scratch, to the original menus and settings scroll.
If I delete NHL22/23, it takes me right back to this screen:
I'm convinced it's a short term memory problem, or at least that's the root of it, with how the game operates. Possibly why a bug (if it's that) can't get removed. Again, even a hard reset of an Xbox will lead you back to the screen above.
But anyone who has loaded this game the VERY FIRST TIME knows you go through this progression of screens:
You cannot replicate that with a factory reset, a game re-download, anything EXCEPT (as I outlined) clearing data offline and reloading the game offline......and it felt nicer OFFLINE. But then you get a message prompting you to load the Cloud data when you go back online, so it might be moot. But it's something odd that has stuck in my head in the hundreds of hours testing why I can replace all possible hardware and have an issue online AND offline.
Or perhaps it's my router?

If you truly want to delete everything, you can try this -
Press the Guide button and then highlight the NHL 23 tile. Then, hit the Menu button. It's the small one to the right of the Guide button with 3 horizontal lines on it. Next, go to Manage game and add-ons > Saved data. Delete the file with your gamertag on it. Choose delete from everywhere. That should delete your cloud data, but with your HUT and WoC data saved on our servers, it's possible those won't be removed. Your offline data should be though.
Also, I passed on all the details you provided, but we couldn't reproduce the same issue.
- 3 years ago
@EA_AljoThat's what I do. It does NOT reboot the game from scratch. If you delete the game and ALL data, it will not restart the game as it did the first time. Try it. I've only done it 500 times. The only way to do a full game reboot is to delete all save data while offline and then go back in the game offline. That weird short term memory thing is unique to this game, not any other game I play. It's a weird inconsistency that is new to the games on this engine and next gen.
That's swell you can't reproduce it, but it exists, period. How can you explain my clips? And bugs don't affect everyone. You can't tell someone who has replaced every single piece of hardware that can be replaced (over 9 months) to do a hard reset or make sure his ports are opened for an issue that manifests offline and online.
I just want this discussed with someone with more expertise. It has been "passed on," and I'll never get a real response because I understand how this works. This is a potentially complex issue involving short term memory and cloud data transfer. That's about the only thing that makes a lick of sense, and it can't be hand waved away. I can't even have a live chat with someone at EA. It's always whisper down the lane. - EA_Aljo3 years ago

There really is no way to completely remove everything for online modes since that data is saved on our servers. I think your best option is to start over on a new account.

@EA_Aljo wrote:That's a relatively small number when compared to the overall population. They are all welcome to contact our support for assistance.
Relatively small number... Maybe, but the point is the ratio.
105 having input lag/delay vs 48 not having atm.
So ~2:1 ratio should be a concern...?
@DeliveryForKiki Respect to your effort!

If there were that ration, we'd have a lot more reports of this.
We're keeping an eye out for an uptick in reports on this. For now, we'll need to go through connection troubleshooting to see if we can get connections improved that are experiencing lag/disconnects.
- 3 years ago
@EA_AljoI'm not saying it's solely about online modes because it happens in offline modes too. And I'm not saying for sure if it's a cloud problem.
Starting over on a new account (I have a 16 year account) is a heckuva option, but I've already tried a new account to no avail. Again, I'm interested in hearing from the team why the game is not programmed to reset, upon loading, when you delete all files and the game. Other games do so. But NHL22/23 retain some sort of information. I'm wondering if that is affecting the processing. Previous titles did not have Quick Resume (and I always close the app -- yet, it will still show "Last Played"). You'd previously load up the title screen, hit 'A', and then go to the main menus each time. But the new games are built to bypass that. I'm wondering if that's why I can't get rid of this.
Maybe I'm crazy, but if someone has replaced ALL hardware several times, but has an issue on my game online and offline with input issues, it would leave me befuddled if I was developing this game. Because that implies a bug or technical glitch. It's not like Apex (an EA game) didn't have an input delay issue that affected the entire software of the Xbox, across other titles and menus.
