@Nasher355 Tbh there are a number of things I would do to market this game better but first they need to make a game that people WANT and LIKE to play again. It seems offline players are upset with bugs, WoC players are bored and don't get support for lost of issues, and HUT people? I have no idea I don't play HUT I know at high levels they deal with people who waste their time hiding behind the net in a game we play to... have fun?
NBA 2K just made their game free this month on playstation. This gave a lot of gamers a chance to play the title w/o spending a dime. Now 2K is NOT a game that NEEDS to grow their community. The community is active and lots of people are ALWAYS on. NHL would probably gain FAR more players by doing this than 2K will. The problem is, a lot of people won't enjoy the game. Toxic players ruin modes, bugs all over, no support for new players who have never played.
They only add a couple things per installment so it's certainly hard to market the game when nothing is new. "Here buy this one, we have female refs now and you can unlock all the gear you unlocked last year all over again, except this time stick lift is broken!"
Also, I agree they do not have ANY idea what their customers seem to want. I dunno how many people in these forums are begging for more realism and they seem to push harder and harder into arcade.. at this point I'd drop the NHL license if that's as expensive as they say and just make players create their cub in every mode.
I do see the game from time to time on commercials and things online but all they typically show is the cover and stuff. If I'm in charge of marketing I'm wondering what would make someone (or a group of friends) wanna play? I would advertise that! My friend asked me who the "models" were on the cover thinking they were social media influences or something. If you wanna make this game NOT like the NHL you're gonna have to cater to people who don't know who NHL players are.. now, I I'm a fan of the NHL OR not a fan what I want to see is WHY I should play this game.. create your own club and build up your arena while you play 3 vs 3 in arcade hockey or 4v4/ 6 vs 6 with friends in simulation hockey!! Take your talents to HUT where you can create a team with stars from.the NHL or Historic players from around the league.
If I was never a fan of hockey and I heard that I would say to my friends "hey, what do you guys think about this game. Would you guys wanna all get it and team up?" This would especially be true if the game was free for a month. Make it free halfway through the game's cycle so youre not losing much money. A bunch of friends get in and try it out.. maybe you get a bunch of people who return the next year..

As far as making the game free, I'd like to offer my 2 cents. I was given the game for free by my brother because he knew I wasn't going to buy it. I bought all up to 21. It took exactly 10 days for us to remove it. If you haven't had the joy of looking at their reviews on Xbox and ps store, have a read. 1.4 out 5. The devs take a beating here because management makes terrible decisions regarding this game. One customer does not equal one customer. They are finding this out now with the lack of online presence. Until management changes and there is a direct link from the core players to the devs, this game will continue to regress.
