Man.. that really bums me out. An already depleted development team having to spread focus across two generations of consoles is disheartening. It's hard to imagine any substantive changes being made when they're having to keep in mind the technological limitations on last-gen. If they are separating the engines, then this means the small dev team would be split into two smaller camps.
I thought '24 would've been a rip-the-band aid-off approach to current-gen, but clearly marketing wants to continue to tap into the last-gen market. It's going to result in yet another stale NHL product with primary focus being HUT.
I understand there will be changes, but from my perspective, the changes could be far more advanced if the focus was on current-gen.
@KidShowtime1867, if you look at the number of players online on the Xbox One and on the Xbox Series, you will see that there are about 1 thousand more people playing in the past-generation. And this means that it would be mean to leave an entire army of fans without their favorite game.
It would be absolutely cool if there was a single version of the game, like NHL 21. But Technology moves forward, so there was a division, unfortunately.

Another year I need to dip in quality so I can play with my buddy and a larger playerbase, sigh.
Since they didn't have to use resources on new features and the like, hopefully some legacy bugs have been fixed and some X factors were tweaked...

However, I feel those numbers can be misleading. There's no way to tell the number of players on XBOX ONE that are actually XBOX Series X/S and only playing that version because their club has players on old gen.
But yea, it's clear EA is gun-shy about pulling the plug on old-gen due to still having a seemingly satisfying number of players still there. I can't help but think HUT is to blame , but I always want to blame HUT for everything.
