1. Stop making poke check the only means of effectively defending. Players won't use anything else if one mechanic is way better than other ways of defending. Reduce how effective poke checking is ag...
I cannot stress this one enough. I really don't understand why it was taken out of the game. You can take an interference penalty when hitting a player that doesn't have the puck. However, you used to be able to trip and slash / high stick a player that doesn't have the puck.
I CONSTANTLY see players spamming poke check or stick lift through my computer players. Why does my opponent's stick just go through them like they're ghosts?
Players should be rewarded with proper defensive timing just like offense. Just panic spamming buttons doesn't show any sort of skill gap. This is the reason this franchise is failing. Long time players have been leaving more and more each year. Due to the skill gap. EA Sports keeps giving less experienced players easy ways to defend and score. When the game should be more skill focused.
If you have some video of this, please let me know. I'll pass it on to the team.

@Sega82mega well in my opinion if they got rid of the auto poke check it make a huge difference on how people played defense
I don't mind auto pokes. Without them, I think it would be pretty tough to get a quick, accurate, poke off. It's fine when you're using DSS, but would be more challenging than necessary for those quick jabs at the puck since you can't really aim it in advance. Plus, this is a pretty basic move for a pro hockey player. Which, all the players in the game are and the idea is to replicate the real-world sport as much as possible. I think it's pretty easy to take a tripping call if you are truly spamming it. Also, if you're getting close enough to be poked, you need to protect the puck better and keep it as out of reach of defender's sticks as possible.

All we are asking is to nerf the aim assist on the poke check. Especially when a player is not in a position to make an accurate poke check to begin with.
As it stands. Players get rewarded for poor defensive plays with poke check when they're player isn't even facing the puck. I have seen so many times a player not facing the play, do a no look poke check with pin point accuracy.
It doesn't happen quite as often in real life than it does in this game.
There is no punishment for poor defensive plays other than stick lift and hitting.
If you go to the top leader boards on competitive online versus. The top 100 players - maybe 10 of them average 10 of more hits a game. The vast majority only average 5 or less.
It speaks volumes when you provide a defensive mechanic to the game that trumps everything else. 99.9% of the community is not motivated to hit.
The only mode that works half decent is world of chel. You can build a defensive player. Where other modes it's a huge pain to get a player off the puck without using the over powered aim assist.
I also average only a handful of hits normally. That's because hitting often takes you out of the play. I'd rather poke and raise my chances of a turnover. That doesn't mean I'm constantly spamming it. That gets you in trouble and there are times I'm guilty of it.
I'll keep an eye out for no look pokes. If you have any video, you're welcome to send it over.

@KlariskraysNHL they definitely work way too well. It's very unrealistic.I thought it was great at release when you missed a poke you were left wildly out of position.
I like your idea of slight contact. We need better loose puck physics.
To my knowledge, nothing actually changed with this. I think it's more likely that people adjusted to the slow down with poking.
Yeah. I definitely remember that. It happens every year. It takes a few weeks to adapt to the new gameplay. In this case, we've gotten used to timing our pokes better so the slow down from them is minimized.
Always ways around it, at least with 3v3 - The trick is to just stop poking entirely and focus on hitting since shot blocking and stuff doesn't really do much; With high enough stats you just break their legs every time.
On the flip side, you can just use a larger guy with L2 as an attacker and make the poke and smaller bumps useless.
This year eliminated most of the pointless spam that happened in years prior since there is a clear speed and control nerf when doing so. This "auto poke" only happens with the strange R3 click feature anyway, no? Much easier to use DSS and hold it there while sweeping
And please EA include the ability to control multiple(all 32) teams in franchise mode! Thanks.
