Strategies in NHL 23
Are they going to fix strategies in the game so we can go back and edited them like we did in previous games? (picture I’ve provided.)

Community ManagerThe reasoning behind this is that you're not playing the rule of the coach so it's up to the coach to handle strategies.
You’re not the coach, but you do still get to decide who plays on what line and players will come to you to complain about ice time.
We also assign you a random coach and don’t offer any replacement options.
Also, you are only the GM, but make sure the facility is maintained.Not a shot at you @EA_Aljo , but this sure is some kind of EA logic.
@EA_Aljo , that’s fine and all. The problem is when you fire your coach, and hire a new one the strategies DO NOT change to the new coaches preferences.
that means we are stuck with the same default strategies of our first coach for the duration of franchise mode.
That means that if I have a defensive coach but want to switch to an offensive strategy set I cannot, no matter who I hire.
at least last year I could manually change my line strategies and defensive instructions to match my new coach.
how do you guys not see this as a problem?

So I have been having the exact same problem obviously… I don’t know why none of us realize this… And I don’t know why EA did it this way, but when you are at the team selection screen right before starting a game if you go to edit lines and strategies, you can change all of the adjustments for your strategies with each line. This just goes to show how incompetent EA is because obviously they intended this to be a workable feature, they just didn’t fix it from the franchise menu. But I am so relieved to see that there is a way that we can edit our strategies.

Yet why in game you can change it when you use your pad ? Or does that do nothing.
Honestly I used it a lot in previous versions. It doesn’t matter that you’re just a GM. **Everything should be customizable** - @EA_Aljo

By that logic we shouldn't be able to edit lines or control the players in game while playing franchise mode then...
I understand this isn't your doing, but this is incredibly disappointing to hear. Being able to edit strategies allows users to cater the AI to their play style and removing the ability to edit them will be unnecessarily frustrating for those who tweak them regularly. Hopefully this change will be reverted.So why even fire a coach? Why even take over GM finances instead of CPU. So in franchise mode as GM all I can do is manage the roster. So much for immersion. Rather sounds like an excuse for doing less. The 2012 release was better than this one. This game used to be fun, it's torched. EA has ruined sport sims for years to come.
- I don’t mind not being able to edit coaches strategies but if teams are stuck with the same strategies no matter who the coach is, that’s just ridiculous.
The "you're not the head coach" excuse makes absolutely no sense. We're not the players either, yet we can still control them and play in-game.
It's just a badly implemented idea, from the start. I get that EA wants the coaches we hire to influence the game. But removing the ability to set our own strategy isn't the way to go. It never was. Coaches should have ratings, just like players, where they are better in certain scheme, not so good in others. That would make a lot more sense than forcing us to play a system we don't like.
- @EA_Aljo Why not give us the choice to either or not also play as the coach? The GM and the coach are working together in real life, why not let us decide if we want to intervene or not in the choice of strategy?
I like to play all 82 games and I was using franchise mode to do it.
Now that I cant change strategies I obviously cannot play the games.
I can change them on Season Mode but that mode doesn't have all the features that Franchise mode has.
If you like playing your games Franchise mode is irrelevant.
@NewHockeyFan I also play franchise mode like that. I play every game. Why didn’t they just “leave it”

@EvaElfieSimp3 You can, when I enter a match I always lock my controller on CO and watch games CPUvsCPU, having the ability to change strategies on the fly, line match, etc etc. So taking out the team strategy setup (but introducing the pp strategy setup at the same time) makes ZERO sense.
Yeah pretty stupid decision since they just introduced a special teams strategies customization... so I can set pp strategies but can't set the general team strategies! Duh! This is a big problem for me, might ask for a refund since I ONLY play Franchise mode as the gm AND the coach simultaneously, when I enter the match I always lock controller on CO, so I can adjust strategies on the fly, line match etc.. and I always set the team strategies before the game depending on the lineup and opposing team., turning down the slider where the AI coach can change strategies during game to zero. bummer

The reasoning is illogical, would Madden force you run to on 2nd down no matter what? Or even better punt on 1st? I paid $90 to play a hockey video game but for some reason I’m not allowed to use the new freaking power play feature with my team in a franchise? Give me my money back
- @EA_Aljo That's so silly...WE want to play the game the way WE want to play. I swear EA Sports goes out of their way to lose fans. It was never an issue before...why this year? They remove keys parts of the game and only focus on what they can monetize. Frankly it's unacceptable.
It's just another way of theirs to try to get people to play HUT and EASHL and spend more money. The NHL games bring in less revenue in ultimate team then there FiFA and Madden counter parts. So they are trying to find ways to get people to spend more. So if they have to take features away there going to do so sadly.
As someone who only plays franchise mode it's frustrating as hell to see them not adding new features the franchise but taking old ones away. I'll wait till this game goes on game pass unfortunately now.
Because of the strategy stuff my coach keeps putting forwards as defensemen when not on the power play...Also keeps putting bottom six forwards on my first powerplay.
