You played with the sliders and setting AS IS and on Superstar ? It was 8-1 after 1 ?
WTH !!! Maybe I’m super bad and everyone playing with my sliders are also, lol !!!
I play player lock and try to play like hockey…. Not looking for glitch goals and I’m also passing the puck…
These clips are awesome BTW, how do you make these ? It’s a gif of a video ?
And no offence, but all I see in these clips is a guy not passing, hanging on to the puck looking for glitch goals… Same thing I see when I look videos of online… If you wanna have fun, try playing player lock, not look for glitches, pass the puck and never ask for passes. Put each team on (Puck Side Attack) in the team Strategies and maybe, just maybe you'll see what I see 😉 Then post a video of a whole period 😀

Aren't all of us gamers playing some sort of simulation, or at least an abstract version of reality?
Personally, I've been gaming since the mid-80s, and my gaming library has many classics and memories. In fact, not only is my PlayStation library full of reminiscing, so is my Nintendo Switch (OLED) library. B'ye crikey, mate, I love gaming!
Okay, I'll now add to what you're pointing out. Yes, there's plenty of "simulators". And as an almost 3-decade (gamer) fan of the NHL series, this series needs more interjection from the current and lackadaisical development team that's supposedly taking pride in what they're selling. At this point, and over the last several iterations of this series, their stance has been quite the opposite. Why? Because they know full well that the supposed small demographic will buy this game, regardless of the platform, hype, past transgressions, and most importantly, whatever the price point is. Ha, and yes, they've already, long before release, have factored in that the supposed small demographic will tirelessly complain on this forum. Pride? Nope. Integrity? Nope. Care factor? Nope. Profit? Most certainly.
Bottom line, I'm also a part of the supposed small demographic, and I could have done something better with my $94 CAD.

Would be cool to see what you talking about, put up a whole game to watch, if there's no problem for you of course.
EA should create a Competition, were the community will have to do their best, to get the most hockey out of the gameplay, the score is second, but the product of hockey is first.
And then create a poll were we get the chance to vote on the candidate we thinks are doing the best job.- 3 years ago

Yes, it is a good idea 😀

@PernellKarl027
Yeah please do. 🙏
I remember it quite challenging to play the game like you are, but the satisfaction you feel when you hit the sweet spot, is lovely.
Like being a conductor of a musical band. You need every AI bot to be on board and to understand how you feel.
One thing I always found difficult, what took away a lot of the flow, was the CPU's inability to take shots 'when they should'/had to'.
And AI passes was often too perfect.
But I guess the hardest part is to program a bot to be good, but also with the possibilities for errors that feels realistic for us humans to do.

Yes I make a gif of the recorded gameplay on PS5.
You're right, I'm not passing, hanging on to the puck - BECAUSE THE AI LETS ME. I should have to move the puck to create offense. The fact that I can skate around with the puck in the offensive zone without the AI stopping me is an indictment of just how pathetic the AI is in this game. I shouldn't pass the puck or play realistically because I want to, I should HAVE TO. If I want to use my imagination to play realistic hockey I can get on the floor and play with figurines like a little kid and "pretend" its a real hockey game. This isn't a sandbox game like the Sims or Minecraft where you are supposed to use your imagination to create your own fun, this is supposed to be a competitive game.
It sounds like you play with a lot of "house rules" to make the game harder and more realistic. You handicap yourself with the camera angle where can't see teammates half the time, you "go easy" on the AI and avoid taking advantage of their deficiencies, you make realistic plays even though you don't have to. I used to do this when I was a kid 30 years ago with NHL games back then, we shouldn't have to do that now. EA is perfectly capable of making a realistic and challenging game with the technology we have, they just choose not to.

Well, with all do respect, my house rules are pretty simple, I play hockey (NHL series) like real hockey… I play player lock, since when in real hockey you can be the 5 guys on the ice ? And when I look at these clips, the way you play, is like you're playing online in an offline scenario. In real hockey, you don’t see the plays you are making, or your teammates would go crazy… Or you would get a blind side hit so bad…
When you talk about a simulation, I try to play like one. If I would buy a bus simulator, I would probably stop at every red lights and take people in at all my bus stops, not try to run people over, lol !
Like I said, try only one game as per my recommendations, and maybe you’ll have fun 🤔
BTW, you must be one heck of an online player !

So essentially you are placing more responsibility on the user to make the game challenging and realistic by altering the way you play (and spending countless hours editing rosters and sliders), while I think it is more of EA's responsibility to make a challenging and realistic game. I think you are letting EA off the hook pretty easily by asking the player to do all the work in making the game realistic. I think the user should have to use actual hockey tactics in order to win, not for the sake of using actual hockey tactics.
With that said, even if you think it is the user's responsibility to make the game realistic, NHL 23 is still kind of pathetic, as NHL 2k games from decades ago play more realistically. Look at this powerplay from 2k10:
It looks like that user is position locked and staying in position on the PK. Doesn't the way the AI move the puck around look way more realistic than the ping pong passes and out of control skating in NHL 23? Don't his AI teammates maintain their PK shape better than the AI in NHL 23? Remember, this game is 13 years older than NHL 23 and three console generations ago.
