- TheUnusedCrayon2 years agoSeasoned Ace@FlyerFan4life The reason they don't poke check is because they added a slow down mechanic to pokes so when the defender used them, they'd get burned even more so they removed their functionality in using the most used defensive tool in real life.
Now they just hit because the poke checking isn't a reliable enough mechanic for their AI. - TTZ_Dipsy2 years agoLegend
They totally went overboard but the AI was nerfed to force better defensive play from the humans - Been a major problem for a few years now and I'm not sure they're able/willing to change it
- BoredJason132 years agoSeasoned Veteran@TTZ_Dipsy All the more reason to have two different styles of play between online and offline modes. I understand it felt like 90% of the online community played “skill zone d” so you had to nerf it, but now when you play offline it’s like lol you suck how dare you attempt to play defense the correct way and your teammates are now traffic cones

No matter how arcadey you get, i think all modes should still follow the proper rules of hockey - The biggest issue players face is the fact AI itself is never updated to catch up to new human capabilities.
Not talking about the human brain creating complex and even funny plays, but when we're given more speed to emulate real world events but the AI never gets the memo it just makes for a horrible time. Nobody wants the cpu to dominate, we just need them to put in minimal effort -- in koder for that to happen, the devs need to work on major overhauls
- rsandersr472 years agoSeasoned Ace@TTZ_Dipsy Yeah, the problems are the AI seems to HAVE to play the same across every mode.. no idea why..
In EASHL I honestly have no issue with bad AI because I think clubs should do everything they can to play with real humans because people don't play that mode to play against AI. So imo I'm okay with punishing teams for this. You also routinely find teams who force their AI to play defense for them while they cherry pick hoping for an easy goal this should be punished! A.i. is really good at breakout passes to them and will pass almost perfect off boards, they make the correct line to the puck and win about 90% of 50/50 puck battles so they are really good at getting any loose puck and throwing it up the ice. In that mode, I'm 100% fine with them being AWFUL and with all the mistakes they make because in nearly every game they make a handful of great plays. I don't think people (who play with AI routinely) notice how often they get to loose pucks, or how often they make a really good pass. They notice all the mistakes they make. Take a look at the end of a game at offensive puck possession and the teams with more AI generally will have a higher possesion time. This is due to loose pucks, 50/50 puck battles, and good breakout passes. They do make REALLY bad mistakes but what they do well goes unnoticed. It's also often the people who depend on the CPU to bail them out the most in EASHL that have the biggest issue with them. When they're not getting bailed out on defense and getting as many of those perfect passes up the ice they blame the CPU. Forget getting a human defenseman who will make mistakes themselves or complain to them that they need help in the defensive zone and get irritated that they are cherrypicking all game.
In WOC I understand skill zoning or w/e is an issue.. but you can't control your whole team. They probably need to be made to be a little more competent.
In offline modes and online vs they need to be better for sure. - RelentlessJ692 years agoSeasoned Hotshot@rsandersr47 Lmfao dude said punish teams that don't have a full 5 person squad... It shouldn't matter if you have 2, 3 or 4 members, AI should at least be serviceable. There's times where only me and one of my friends can play at the same time, I watch the AI defense let these people breeze in and score on something that should be saved more often than not 90% of the time.

If you have only 2 people on and want to play 6's play drops. Try to pick up new players. What purpose do you play EASHL for? I play alone most of the times because my friends got sick of the gameplay. However, if you HAVE to play club and play with a friend and HAVE to play 6's (which 4 humans on the ice and 8 computers just sounds like an awful time) at least they have the same number of CPU players. Idk what to tell you, are you giving them good passing lanes? I play with CPU sometimes and they're bad but they're a beast at getting loose pucks and as long as I set myself up for good/ short passing lanes they more often than not get it to me. I just can't trust them to play defense at all. They also win most battles in front of the net and can score 1T's really well so typically having them play forward over defenseman is advisable. I just wouldn't play with CPU defensemen, especially in a mode made for max number of humans. Good luck!
- RelentlessJ692 years agoSeasoned Hotshot@rsandersr47 Well then we're playing different games, cause the AI on our team rarely wins puck battles, we'll poke check the puck and it'll go right to the other team, we hit someone, puck goes right back to them. I'm not talking about offensively, I'm talking about the defense AI, they should not be that bad. Not to mention, there's been games where our AI took FIVE penalties before the 3rd period even started.
Also, I don't like drops, out of the drop ins games I've played, I've met maybe one or two people that are decent, the others are either awful or troll the entire game. - rsandersr472 years agoSeasoned Ace

How often are you guys winning games? Have you considered that defense is just hard and not particularly the AI? Or that maybe you're not doing enough on defense yourself? Do you feel in a mode that was created to have full teams of humans, the CPU players should be expected to perform better than a human you find in drop ins? To me it sounds like you just want someone on the backend to take care of everything for you.. I could be wrong.. personally I'd suggest you suffer through drops until you find a few guys to play with. It could take a few weeks but you could have a solid team for the rest of the year, and you could learn to play together. Of course IF you guys aren't doing enough on the backend the defenseman is probably gonna say something where as a cpu I just gonna look worse than they already have to be and you can continue to blame them. Again, not saying CPU is good, they are bad. But in EASHL a LOT of humans are bad so CPU should play like a base level human. Want a good defenseman? get a human and get them better.
However, I do think we're playing diff games if you're not seeing them win puck battles or getting to loose pucks first. They will always take the perfect line to a puck. They know exactly the bounces it will take, they know when to stick lift you for it or bump you and they can feel much harder to knock. They are bad at a ton but getting the puck, making short passes, and getting 1Ts/ wristies in the slot they are pretty solid. Overall they're still better than most base level players.. which is roughly 30-50% of the community. If my life depended on winning 1 dropin game.. I'd prob take a cpu over a random. CPU is bad, you can skate right by them, but most humans are extremely bad at positioning and wont even be in place to attempt to make a play. Do you think the CPU should be better than humans? I'm sure it would make life easier for people who only play forward, of course then the they would complain the CPU defends too well on the other team.
I just personally feel a CPU should not perform better than a human. Personally if i made the game EASHL CPU players would be even worse, to the point people WOULD go out of their way to find other humans to play with. If youre not doing that still then it means you too feel a CPU is better than a random human. I remember drops back in the day and one team would go up 4-0 all but 2 of their guys quit and they come back to win 6-4. CPU gets all 6 goals and shuts down the other team. Been on both sides of this. Humans should not get punished for playing well or be punished for playing vs cpu. Playing with and against CPU is the most unrewarding experience. I would NEVER want to play a 6s game with 2 humans per side. I'll take the occasional trolls (and just quit out) as much as I hate them (trolls) over 3 cpu skaters. Also, I've played countless hours of quick 3s and have yet to find a single troll. Lots of decent teammates. Lots of bad teammates. But the stats don't matter, quit if you want. It's quick games and you can play with tons of diff people all night and see who plays well. If someone plays to your liking add them and invite them to 6s. I've added a lot of friends on there and now I get invited to games all the time.

Nobody expects the cpu to be as good as, let alone better than a human, we just need them to put in some minimal effort and not deliberatly hinder the experience.
And LOL, you couldn't possibly make them any worse. Like, sure, they can have their moments, even one of sheer brilliance even, but your chances pf finding a Samsquanch are way higher - Being in a constant mindset of them literally not even being there is a bad thing no matter how you look at it.
You're absolutely right in just getting more humans but just like those who snub skill stick or can't figure out how to now hit (which once you learn is craaaaaazy OP like omg haha), I refuse to accept ai acting the way they do - This wouldn't just affect online though - it would trickle into framchise, BaP, etc so it should be a win/win for all the girls and boys.
