Only thing I can think of would be a screen effect, which is kinda wonky at times. I know I've had goals go in where maybe a player was partially between me and the puck carrier and it would seem to cause the screen mechanic to kick in even though, in real life, the goalie would've been able to see the puck the entire way.
Dunno.
