Had fun but must leave
After 2 years of absence of playing NHL (skipped 22 and 23), I must leave again due to inconsistent latency. Speaking of difference between this year NHL and previous NHLs, I gotta say this year was...
Hi there, @jimmo52
Thanks for all the feedback as well as the kind words. It's all truly appreciated. It's also very disappointing haring you need to step away from the game. I hate to see that happen.
One other suggestion I can make is to make sure you're using game mode on your TV. This can make a big difference. Also, are you using the HDMI cable that came with your PS5?
I looked over our last conversation when you mentioned disconnecting frequently. Was that resolved when switching to a wire, but now you have input delay?
What modem/router are you using? Have done any research on it to see if others are having similar issues?
Router, its the asus ax82u. A mid range gaming router that has good reviews and no known issues when research for it.
For modem, I had the Fizz modem which had Puma chipset which have been known to cause latency in online gaming.
Switched to Virgin Internet with Valerie modem. No known issue. DSL only with no fiber to my home (FTTN). Some days, I had good connections but after a few weeks, everyday, there is latency. This one, I had the best ping, with 6-10 ms but still had terrible input lag.
Switched to Ebox with Technicolor TC4400 modem which has good reviews but I still had problems (maybe I had latency because this ISP is a reseller)
Switch to Videotron with Helix with no known issue. Still have problem. Had a very constant 20 ms ping but it felt like more. And recently, after 1-2 hours of online gameplay, it becomes unplayable.
You've certainly put a huge amount of work into this. I don't blame you for the frustration. That router should be fine. Which Helix modem are you using?
It would be interesting to see if you have the same issue in a different location. If it works fine, then there's an issue with the modem/router or wiring/equipment of your ISP in your area.
