Had fun but must leave
After 2 years of absence of playing NHL (skipped 22 and 23), I must leave again due to inconsistent latency. Speaking of difference between this year NHL and previous NHLs, I gotta say this year was...
You've certainly put a huge amount of work into this. I don't blame you for the frustration. That router should be fine. Which Helix modem are you using?
It would be interesting to see if you have the same issue in a different location. If it works fine, then there's an issue with the modem/router or wiring/equipment of your ISP in your area.
@EA_Aljo He said he tried FOUR ISPs though. Surely one of them would have checked his wiring when setting everything up, no?
@jimmo52 which region are you located in?
I also have a question: How is it possible that there is input delay (input lag) when the game shows you that you're getting a 20 ms connection to a dedicated server? That *shouldn't be* possible. If a person does a wired speed test and sees that their connection has no jitter, no packet loss, and a good upload speed, and the game SIMULTANEOUSLY tells them that their connection is below, say, 30ms then there shouldn't be any significant input delay.
Why is that happening? This is something I feel the devs should attempt to explain to us. Dedicated server experiences are supposed to get rid of those issues.
On a slightly different note, I've had similar experiences with my P2P connection in Online Versus. I'll match up with an extremely rare "green" opponent and get a ~30ms game and sometimes it will be as smooth as you'd expect but other times it will feel like an 80+ms game. I don't understand what's happening there.
I'm not seeing a bunch of negativity on that modem. It looks pretty barebones though. Still, seems like it should work. Since you've had this same issue with other equipment, it points to the ISP or their wiring/equipment in your area.
At this point, I'm out of ideas other than trying a different location to see if the same thing happens. Somewhere outside of your immediate neighborhood so you don't potentially run into the same issue.
