The most difficult hit in hockey, hip checks being tied to a button is a completely different story though.
It's really not that difficult to be honest. It's mostly about timing and hip placement. The same goes for executing a good hip check in '24. Some people make it seem like you just press the button and it happens, but that's not really the case. Although it is a simple button press to get the actual hip-check movement, you still need to execute it properly and time it perfectly or else you just brush off the intended target.
Well the problem is that last sentence is completely false. You absolutely don't need to time anything and no one brushes off hip checks.
guess we playin different games then

A lot of really bad defensmen are loving the way this game plays for them in the offensive zone- ei less skill
I’ve had zero issues with hitting once I got used to it. I strip defenders all the time with poke checks and hits. I mean my team is dominating other teams with time on attack and hits, and we are being rewarded for actually playing hockey for a change.

Agreed. The only 'issues' I've had are due to my current skill with the new controls. Sometimes, old habits kick in and I start flicking right stick for a hit. That doesn't mean 'hitting is broken' like most would claim, it means I'm a * and forget the new controls sometimes. Blame myself, learn and then dominate those who'd rather complain online than take the time to master the new meta.

@KidShowtime1867I neither hate or love the new hiting for big hits but it has potential. As of now though, I feel that it could use some tuning, there's several times where I was perfectly lined and the swing was, to say the least, off. Going too much on the left or right unexpectedly. Like some auto aiming jumped in and said No, I'm gonna make you hit to your left instead of in straight line.
And puck pick up could definitly be better after a big hit, it take too much time to get back on track. - TTZ_Dipsy2 years agoHero+
They new system has been a godsend for me since I usually play a small sniper nowadays and musclememory from my old crosscheck days keeps rearing its ugly head.
I can finally just go -5 in body checking and dedicate myself to the ways of the flapjack using the square button. I love hipchecking fools, it gets me going. I don't really like how inconsequential hitting is overall but you can't deny how hilarious it is knocking someone into another dimension.
Oh the controls feel awkward and hurt you more than help? Welcome to the old version of hipchecks with their janky control in addition to the bubble. At least I have 1 small thing to help out while playing defense.

There is nothing wrong with the hit stick the way it is. Whether it be hip checks (which I do think is overtuned), shoulder checks, or the shoves, all of these features have their uses in locations. The problem is that the people that are making these statements saying they can't shove or hit someone are the same people who are running with a 5'10" 160 winger build or something similar with their strength dropped immensely. STOP PLAYING THIS GAME LIKE ITS 23 WHEN IT IS NOT! People do nothing but complain saying that things are too difficult when it should be difficult to do these things. Defense is hard. You should never have been able to have the type of hitting that existed last year which was so forgiving. If you are a defenseman in here and you are making these excuses, than stop playing the same way and readjust your game. Stop going for big hits in open ice. Stop trying to spam the pokechecks because the guy is already past you and you are trying to make up for your mistakes. Play the player and not the puck.
I hip check at times against the boards when they have nowhere to go. I switch between pokechecks and shoulder checks against the forwards to keep them guessing when they try to enter the zone. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I shove ANYONE who tries to enter my slot for free. Did you know you can knock them down with that shove when they are in the slot trying to "cut" into you or standing next to you getting ready for a tip? I bet not for most because I still have yet to see another team do it in the almost 100 games that I have played.
Wingers who think that the Defense has an easy time at the blue line running offense its only because you keep trying to go for the same "one poke" that ALWAYS used to get you breakaways and would bypass skaters sticks in 23. Your trying to hit a guy with a small build and no momentum. Then you complain about the fact that you are out of position for missing the hit which you should be since hitting should be a risk reward type thing and not something you can get away with doing anywhere. Skate up to them at a more controlled pace and then when you are next to them, give them a good shove. Be careful though to not shove them from behind or you risk a crosschecking penalty.
Also, think about last year as well when you would be on a breakaway and the person from behind would shove you causing you to lose the puck and how mad you were in that situation. Now these actions result in potential penalties for crosschecking etc. so you are less likely to get screwed over by these chances.
This game is not 23 it is 24 and the gameplay has really pushed us veterans to change the way we have been playing the game for years. This game now has an increased skill gap with how you hit, pass and work together to get the puck out on the break or cycle around on the offense to find more opportunities. To time your one timers rather than closing your eyes and spamming up on the RS hoping you get it before the defenseman who last year would just have to hope he got it first and then avoid the onslaught of pokecheck spam to try and take the puck away from him. Sorry if I got heated but it is tiring hearing people in the months leading up to this "we want 24 to be different" and now people are saying bring the old controls back for this and that because I don't want to learn how to play this game again. I just want to play the game the exact same way I have been for years. Games have to change over time and we as gamers have to change with them. Especially with a game thats in its 30th iteration of its release.
- MarvnZindler2 years agoNew AceI'm personally loving the hitting this year. The mechanic isn't hard to figure out, either. You pull the RS back when you want to move into the hit, then you push the RS forward when you're close to the guy to finish the hit.
I'm currently running a 6'2" 210 defensive defenseman, gold truc and silver shutdown, 90 checking. I'm racking up hits like crazy. I can routinely get 15 or so hits per game. - Jammalammalam2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@TTZ_Dipsy It's so tiring to keep hearing about defensive skill gaps while one-button, broken, super-dekes are now in the game.
