Having to use the analog sticks to protect the puck is hard but defensemen aiming hits and using DSS "balances" the game. I play Center when I can but pick "skater" if playing drops.. this game is doing an awful job with balance. Expected after hearing all the changes but it's pretty bad.

Really enjoying the hitting mechanics this year. Tried the new total controls, they weren't for me, went back to skill stick. Love the hip checks once you really set them up perfectly and you get them lined up just right and click in the right stick and L1 ...heck ya, then you get a replay , so satisfying. After sometime, the down on the right stick then up to make a big hit became natural after a few games with penalties down just to get use to it , and to be 100% honest it's a great addition , it's so satisfying making those hits and when I make a mistake because of my wrong timing , my team pays for it . You have options which Is nice , you can just give a shove which is great. This is a fantastic and a welcomed addition to me personally.

Well to make hitting great again we need to get rid of the one button hip check that was the stupidest thing ever added in this game It was just dumb I don't know who thought of it but they should be fired
- mikeq672 years agoNew Vanguard@xsaw2121 I dont love all the one button nonsense they've added, but that isnt the biggest problem with hip check. Its that theyve made it so physics dont matter and barely grazing someone makes them act like they were hit by a bus.

I mean that's probably part of it but at the same time why would you ever map hitting especially the hip check to square or I don't remember what it is on Xbox but not stop the point point being is who thought that was a good idea it's like mapping geeks to one button you've pretty much eliminated the skill gap like I don't know who's coming up with these ideas but someone want to give them a walk upside the head maybe he'll come up with some better things in the future that way
I think the hitting is awesome

Although I personally want everything in the game to feel realistic and I don’t think open ice hits do in NHL 24, I don’t mind the hitting system overall.
The most difficult hit in hockey, hip checks being tied to a button is a completely different story though.

It's really not that difficult to be honest. It's mostly about timing and hip placement. The same goes for executing a good hip check in '24. Some people make it seem like you just press the button and it happens, but that's not really the case. Although it is a simple button press to get the actual hip-check movement, you still need to execute it properly and time it perfectly or else you just brush off the intended target.

Well the problem is that last sentence is completely false. You absolutely don't need to time anything and no one brushes off hip checks.

I agree, hip checks are way too overpowered and don't really require skill. For the new body/shoulder checks I'd love to see it adjusted slightly where you don't have to push UP always and just need to push the R-stick in the direction you want to initiate contact in. But, keep the need to move stick back and forth to throw a more powerful hit. The new mechanics have made it a lot harder to do simple shoulder to shoulder rub outs along the boards, which is by far the most common check throw in hockey.
