@EA_AljoWell, I deleted NHL24 so I can't do a detailed comparison for you, but as an example, in NHL24 I recall I couldn't win a faceoff or make hits. I know intuitively what all of the NHL94 buttons were. With small tweaks some years, I could feel them out pretty quickly and they made sense. With NHL24 I had to take time to go back into settings to see what did what as it wasn't intuitive. I shouldn't have to guess or learn what shoot, pass, hit, speed buttons are. EA had it right in NHL22/23 and really had a good game that those like me who like good, fast, arcade style hockey enjoyed. I don't use modifiers or button combos and don't want to. Those of us who've been playing for decades enjoy a simple and fun game. NHL24 is neither simple nor fun.
And I should add, if EA does decide to bring back NHL94 controls please post so I can reinstall the game. Right now I just have regret that I didn't do the 10 hour trial before buying, as I wouldn't have bought. I've also now canceled my EA Play subscription.
Thanks for all the details. I too have been playing for decades, but made the switch to skill stick when it came out. So, well into my 40s, it's no problem to play with. You can still use buttons for shooting and passing, but as you mentioned, faceoffs require using the right stick. Regardless, I get this isn't ideal for many of you and in the case of those with mobility issues, it's extremely unfortunate. I don't know that it will be returning, but we'll make an announcement if it does.
- 2 years agoIn the last 3 years I lost 30% function of my hands due to injuries in an accident. A family member purchased NHL24 for me as a gift recently, can't even play the game. NHL 94 Controls are a must for me, obviously not the only one. EA is so out of touch normally, this really is a slap in the face, utter disrespect for players with limited functionality. It's amazing that any gaming company in todays world could disregard and disrespect so harshly an entire portion of their customer base with such a simple thing as controls.

Hi there, @twizwolff
I'm very sorry to hear about the injuries you've sustained. I can't imagine what you've been through.
I'd like to pass on some specific feedback on how we can make these controls more accessible. Can you tell me what isn't working for you with the Hybrid Controls? As far as I know, the big issue is with taking faceoffs. It would be good to get some details from you on what you'd like to see change. Thank you.

Hi @EA_Aljo,
I appreciate your sympathy.
The simple fact is the 94 controls simplified things to a point that I wouldn't have to "overuse" my fingers.
Skill stick isn't even something I can attempt, which while is was a disadvantage to me I didn't care about.
It seems the controls were removed from consideration due to online game play and competitiveness, I'd suggest the better way around this was to allow the lobby settings to exclude players using those controls. I mainly play franchise mode offline because I have no desire to play online when sometimes I can't hold the controller for extended periods and have to take breaks. Even with the 94 settings I'd sometimes have to take breaks just to get through one game.
