NHL25 Controls
Hi, I have played NHL since 2006. The skill stick was the best part of the game, and last year in NHL24 they completely ruined it by making puck protect holding left/right on the right stick. And on ...
I'd love to see an option for mapping controls in game. For now though, you can go to the controller settings on your console and remap the controls. The downside is that this changes the controls for every game and app outside of NHL. Or you can get a programmable controller. I remapped L3 and R3 to the paddles on the underside of an Xbox Elite controller and this completely solved the problem for me.
The only controller capable of this is the Xbox Elite controllers. (Which I do have). The reason being is this is the only controller on the market that you can "unmap" buttons on. Even if you were to get a controller where remapping is an option it doesn't matter because when you remap the button to a paddle the button is still stays active- it's just also on a paddle. I personally hate playing NHL with the Elite controllers- they just don't feel right for me playing chel. I prefer the basic controllers. And really, should I have to buy an elite controller when having in game mapping- something that should be so simple to do- should be what we have.
When I say I play thousands of hours on this game I wasn't kidding- I went back and looked its over 3000+. I just want EA to know this is a serious issue but they just don't seem to care.
We can never seem to get tangible change from EA, so I think I'm going to pay to create an expose video on the NHL series and all its downfalls, and then blast it everywhere with paid advertising so EA gets the hint. If you don't believe me- look at how much money I've spent on HUT teams on my previous accounts... All this effort just to get proper controller mapping is wild.
I have an Elite Series 2. I disabled clicking down on the sticks and enabled that on the paddles on the underside of the controller. As far as I know, you can do that on the Series 1 Elite controllers as well. You can set the function for clicking on the sticks to 'Unmapped' and they won't function. Again, I haven't tested this on a Series 1 so possibly, it doesn't work the same.
Have you tried remapping the basic controller? Like I said, it would affect all games and apps without being able to select a profile like the Elite controllers have, but it may work still be a good workaround.
Hopefully, we'll allow button remapping at some point in the future. For now, this is the best I can recommend.
