This is likely because EA's passing system is based on their bad understanding of hockey strategy and not based on where you're aiming your passes at all. I find my guys try to cycle the puck (straight to a defender) more likely than creating space, which is quintessential to hockey...just ask the Great One. Also they still don't seem to understand defensive positioning and when passes get intercepted or blocked vs when they get through. It's damn near impossible to feed the slot in this game yet if you look at NHL analytics, like 70% of scoring chances come from the slot - this means either NHL defenders aren't defending right or the EA team isn't programming right...your pick?
