Yep. It's very frustrating. My solution was to remap the controls. If you have a controller with extra buttons, it's pretty easy to do. I use an Elite Xbox controller and remapped clicking down on the sticks to the paddles underneath.

It's not a bug so it's not something that will be fixed. It's possible the controls could change again sometime in the future though. There also are other controllers that cost less. I just gave the Elite as an example since it's the one I have experience with.

@EA_AljoIt's not a bug but it work as one. They moved it to left stick which automaticly trigger when you press on it to gain a speed burst...which in return overwrite using your right stick to simply stick handles, you are not given the choice of one or the other if your using your speed. It's so particularly annoying on breakaway when you need to keep your lead on the Dmen chasing you and all your guy does is protect the puck instead of freely moving your stick as it should.
The fact that you need an elite controler to avoid this is pretty stupid in itself.
I remember myself and even yourself saying when the game came out, that a solution would be to give the option to disable the protect puck...yet absolutely nothing was done. Then moving it back to B was apparently a no no to avoid previous years issue... Why not just disabling L2 while holding B? So you can't use both at the same time or vice versa.
Just give me the option to move it elsewhere or back to B like previous years with proper tuning to avoid exploiting it.....or even better, to disable it.
Oh and while at it, even though it only happens on rare occasions that I still missclick it, why am I not allowed to move reverse hit to XABY or disable it completly? I dont use the ''free'' dekes buttons on total control...making the face buttons completly useless. Allow me to move it to one of the buttons just like on Skill Stick.
And before asking me why I dont use skill stick, well, it's only because of ''in case of'' I would feel like using the hip check once in a while...which is obviously so much easier to use on total control.
All I'm saying is to give us the choice to move it or remove it so it's not constantly compromising the use of another ability. - FourZeroVI12 months agoRising Scout
I dont have an xbox but playstation has an accessibilty settings within the system that let you remap buttons (its purpose is for those with disabilities, however) it will allow you to do the same thing if xbox has this feature. (Playstation was a little hidden but worth a look).

As mentioned by @FourZeroVI, you can remap the buttons. Except those same controls will then apply to every game. The Elite, as well as other aftermarket controllers, have different profiles you can save those remapped controls to. This way you just hit a button and switch back to default controls for other games.

@EA_AljoBut remaping the buttons doesnt change anything though, you still have the speed burst and puck protect connected to each others. It doesnt resolve the problem, you just move it elsewhere
What we need is a way to remap abilities individually in-game.
I dont want the speed burst anywhere else than L3...but I want the puck protect activator elsewhere though. You can't do that by simply moving L3 to a different trigger/button.
I wanted to move R3 (reverse hit) back to B through remaping the control....but then it also mean moving the puck chop away from R3 too. That doesnt do it. So it's important that we have the option to move/remap the abilities separatly in-game. - EA_Aljo12 months ago

I absolutely get what you're saying. I'm just mentioning how I personally resolved this. I would prefer to have the old controls back myself.

I know I’m going to be in the minority but I absolutely love the new puck control. It has really cleaned up the gameplay. Gone are the days of abusing it to pop around in the corners. As for the issue the OP is having there is a very simple fix. Stop clicking the LS when you start deking. Or embrace the protect puck and finish the goal off of it.

I'm with you on this. Not sure why it's so difficult to not click RS while executing a deke.
