It's quite similar to offensive awareness but also helps you in the defensive zone.

The higher it is, the more often you'll deflect the puck infront of the opposing net (and with better accuracy), and you should, in theory, see an uptick in puck interceptions in your defensive zone.

A higher passing stat gives better accuracy and will allow you as the receiver to settle the puck better but a higher hand eye stat helps you even further.

In combination with the shotblock stat, I assume it ever so slightly increases your ability to stop the puck with your face.
