How is the player right next to the puck carrier not in a position to defend? And if it's giving me the player who's in the best position to defend, why does it select my forward at the opponents blue line, instead of the player right next to the puck carrier?
I thought the quick switch gave you the closest to the puck.

No. It gives you the player that is in the best position to make a play on the puck. If you had switched to the player you wanted, chances are excellent you wouldn't have been able to do anything. Hitting is going to slow you down while they are rushing down the ice. Switching to the defender is a much better option.
 - HurricaneFza2 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@EA_Aljo but why does completely ignore the player in the middle? If it's supposed to give the player in best position, that would seem to be the player in the middle, not the player still inside the offensive zone. That doesn't make any sense to me.

I know my player is a bit closer in this clip, but it selects the player behind the puck carrier even though he's in a bad position. - EA_Aljo2 years ago

Gee wouldn't it be nice to have icon defense choice the same as icon passing. it would not be hard to add - it is just an extension of icon passing but on the defensive end. You hold R2 and pick the icon you want and that player on the defensive team is selected.

Please pass the above post on to the dev team

You can already manually switch players by holding in RT/R2. I'll pass on the feedback though. - internetg6112 years agoNew Vanguard
It does not go to the player you want on a constant basis. in your post above you admitted the game may choose the player it thinks has the best play on the puck. That is not want the player wants, They want the game to let them pick the player they are trying to pick as they may have a different way to defend the play than the game thinks that hey should.

When you manually select a player by holding in RT/R2 and then flicking the stick in the direction of the player you want, this overrides the automatic player switching. Regardless, I know it's not the easiest to get the player you want unless there are no other players along the same path you're aiming.

There's clearly something wrong with it. Why does it completely ignore my player in the middle? While not as extreme as my clip, switching bugs outat least 4 times a game, how is that not broken? - EA_Aljo2 years ago

I'll pass on the feedback. Thank you.

@EA_Aljomaybe broken is too strong of a word. It does act weird too often though.
This is the original clip, hopefully you're able to watch it.

Getting the player in front of the play is intended.
 - HurricaneFza2 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@EA_Aljo I understand that, but why does it select the player behind the play?

I don't know why a player would get selected that far back without manually making the switch.

I have tried this several hundred times and it absolutely does not work the way it is supposed to. Does it sometimes land on the player I wanted? Sure but it's a crapshoot and that is a huge problem. Maybe they built it out for it to be the way you have stated but in actual gameplay it just doesn't do it. The game is already offensive based enough and not allowing people to control the players they need to on defense to overcome poor AI is extremely important. Glad you are passing on the feedback and hope something is done to get it taken care of.
I am interested in this. The current system does not work well. I like the button selection idea.
