Started Champs, went 1-2 with skill stick barely able to control my players, and I mean barely. Slow, skating wide, passing was way off even with icon passing, it was just a non responsive mess for those 3 games(and yes my internet is just fine, brand new controller, and I cleared the cache all before I even started). Decided to switch because I could see the others were using total control, and sure enough, no difference in play style on my part, my players actually started playing like they should. They were faster, easily controllable (for the most part), passing was a lot more consistent and was able to keep control of the puck a lot more and now have a 3-2 record. So again, because there has been no response on my original post, please look at this and make the proper adjustments the control schemes so that one is not able to out perform the other just because. I'm not the only one seeing this and dealing with it, there are others who agree, total control is like a boost over skill stick.
If you can bring back hybrid, you can revert back to the old skill stick controls as well.
I know this has been said enough already as well, but the penalties are ridiculous. If it's not fixed soon, most of the player base will probably stop playing within a few weeks.
And the right stick push, when getting a rebound I find I either don't shoot the puck and just stand there, or I push someone and get a penalty. There is no consistency to it's actual function.
SLAP SHOTS ONLY REGISTER A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THE TIME! Incredibly frustrating experience, especially when they are part of challenges. Score slap shot goals, I wish I could, but 9 out of every 10 tries ends up being a snap shot for some reason. And then there are the times it winds up, but then I'm pushing invisible ghosts, because I didn't slam forward fast enough, or something.. trying to finish the icon slap shot challenge and it's taking forever.
These are my biggest issues, yes small tweaks here and there are needed, but these need to be looked at and tested.

I don't disagree Total Control gives too large an advantage to deke shooting and hitting but I haven't noticed any difference in game action. It sounds more like server issues than control type. I stuck with skill stick and if I'm on a good server my players are fine. My champs run started tough but adjusted my search settings and everything played much better.
The hitting advantage does seem to be more than just push of a button. The hip check registers from behind and with any part of the hitting player's body. Watching some replays of the hits, my player can also appear to be well past the hitting player but will go flying.
For the slapshot you need to release the left stick in your windup and pick it up again to aim when you come forward with the shot. I was struggling with the Icon Slapshot objective but once I started this I haven't had problems. This action also works well when checking on D with Skill Stick.

I appreciate the feedback, and hear what you're saying. I'm 15 min away from EA Burnaby, server shouldn't be an issue, and only ever has been when I'm playing someone with extremely low ping and packet loss. I'm average 12ms which is pretty good, and I check constantly to make sure it's not connections. Maybe it's the fact I'm playing old gen XBOX... Shouldn't be an issue, but the fact that my games changed that drastically when switching to Total Control, is suspicious.
As for the slap shots, I know how they are done, I'm fairly seasoned in the game, and although I have not been playing since 94', I have been playing since 2005. With only jumping online within the last 3-4 years and hitting D2, almost D1 last year, top 100 in SB when I decide to play all the games, I'm not a bad player by any means. I'm sitting at 286 of the 400 needed shots and they are slow going even when they do happen to connect. So I appreciate the feedback, I do know how it's done, it's just not doing it properly consistently enough for me this year. Maybe it's my 45 year old hands that are finally saying enough dude, this game isn't for an older generation and I should just give up and switch to easy mode TC.

I can attest age has a lot to do with it too ;-) . I found myself going at angles and not 0° to 90° on the stick and struggled getting my shot off at the start. This was more a problem with Total Control and getting shots off much better on Skill Stick. Pushing in on the stick is another problem I have and have to remind myself to relax my hands during play all the time.
