World of Chel Revamped 2.0

This is off the top of my head, if there is any interest I'd love to go into it deeper but just a very TLDR of what I would do to revamp the WOC at a fundamental level

WORLD OF CHEL REVAMPED 2.0 (WOC)

TLDR Changes

  • WOC 2.0 will be split into 2 separate modes: Competitive (Club / EASHL) and Ranked (Online Team Play / OTP)
  • There will be a year end EASHL playoffs for both 3v3 and 6v6 with an updated seasonal format
  • Addition of a Community tab and section in the WOC for players to lounge and interact with each other outside of the game

EASHL (6v6)

  • All games will be played with 5min periods with the final 60 seconds of each period being in real time. Penalty time scaling will remain as is currently.
  • Crossplay will be enabled and there will be no console restrictions; Xbox and Playstation players will be able to team up to compete
  • The EASHL will run 3 seasons between November 1st and April 30th to determine who qualifies for the WOC Cup in May. The top 8 teams from Seasons 1 and 2 alongside the Top 16 teams in Season 3 will qualify for the year end playoffs.
  • Teams will be able to search for games with a minimum of 4 skaters and maximum of 6
  • Matchmaking will be based on team size and then team ranking with the goal being prioritizing finding a same sized team as closely rated as possible before searching for +/-1 [Scan Rank 1 - 1000000 for same size team then with +/-1 etc.]
  • Matchmaking will prioritize game servers and quality for bigger games (6v6) and then smaller games (5v5 and 4v4)
  • Goalies will always be MATCHED [AI / Human] and teams with user goalies will automatically lose if they disconnect
  • The leaderboard will use the classic EASHL format: A fresh team will start at 500 points, you gain points for a win and lose points for a loss
  • Teams will gain points based on the strength of their opponent as well as a modifier for team size. Teams will receive 2x points for winning and lose only 0.5x points in 6v6 games (Quitting / DC negates this.) Teams that play with a human goalie will receive 1.75x points for a win and lose 0.75 points in a loss. 4v4 and 5v5 games with AI goalies will receive no points modifier
  • Teams in the top 10 with no games played for 72 hours will begin to ‘decay’ and lose 1000 points per day. [TLDR 1 game every 3 day requirement if you trying to camp]
  • Teams will be required to maintain 4/6 of their roster for the playoffs. Teams who qualify that do not have 6 players will be given a grace period to fill their roster or forfeit the playoffs
  • If a team that is already qualified from a previous season places again in a future season, they will receive priority seeding in the playoffs bracket and be allowed to select their opponent for Round 1
  • The WOC Playoffs will take place in May. Dates can be determined later but it would look something like this roughly:

Week 1 May: Round of 32 and Round of 16

Week 2 May: Round of 8

Week 3 May: Round of 4

Week 4 May: Grand Finals

  • All playoff series will be Best of 7 and all series matches will be played consecutively on the day of the match. Dates can be determined by EA or agreed upon with a set time window by team captains like the original EASHL did in 2009
  • The winners of the grand finals will receive a small cash prize (10k?) as well as in-game rewards the following year (maybe a custom team jersey kit for EASHL)

Online Team play (OTP)

  • OTP will have 2 options that users can choose: Quick Play and Lobbies
  • Quick Play will have users select a primary and secondary position and place them into the matchmaking queue
  • Lobbies will allow users to enter a chatroom that users can host games in and communicate with each other. Teams can use this to scout and promote tryouts and players and host custom games if they wish
  • All Quick Play OTP games will give players a rating no matter what. DC’ing / Leaving early will negatively impact your rating.
  • Players will be given ratings per position and teams will be able to view and scout this information when looking at a players profile

  • The playoffs seem like it might be hard to pull off, not sure how many people would be commited to something like that. The cash prize does add an incentive, who knows.

Making user goalie disconnects count as an automatic loss in club makes 100% sense to me, even if it's a true disconnect, * happens every once in a while, it is what it is. Minimum 4 skaters for 6s makes sense to me as well, I can live with one CPU on my team or against me, but 2 is frustrating.

I honestly think 3s in club should also be locked to 3 human skaters, and any disconnects = forfeit.

OTP/Drop-ins being called ranked might scare people away to be honest. I think it's fine to keep info/ratings about your skill level and to make leaving/being an idiot more punishing on said ratings, but having two modes that sound like they are ranked in some fashion seems intimidating and might scare away new players. If you want to add a solo queue drop-in ranked mode so that people can build their "reputation" as a Free Agent, that's fine I guess, but there still needs to be an option that appears casual. Could be "Ranked quick-play" and "Casual drop-ins" where you can queue with friends for the latter (as much as I find it lame playing with friends but not playing club).

@t99siwkitznf Lots of good points and ideas here so I'll add on a bit more to them:

So I played in the EASHL back in 09 and watched on the Xbox as the Purple Cobraz ran the gauntlet to make the finals and beat the PS3 team the NHL Regulators. There was some insane moments like #1 ranked Shammers United losing in round one to The Giant Shafts, more commonly known as getting shafted. It was something that gave purpose to the EASHL in a yearly sense and I think you can probably make it Best of 5 or change dates / times but there needs to be an end of year tournament to showcase the best of the best in the EASHL from my POV.

The goalie disconnect sucks but it has to be the standard unfortunately to avoid people abusing dropping if their goalie is having a bad game. It sucks but you can't cover everything and it is better for the game to maintain the integrity than try to compensate for the internet right now since the foundation of the game is non-existent from my POV. Maybe when the game and structure is sound they revisit and add a reconnect or improved pause feature to compensate, but I don't think they can bandage it and should just start from ground 0 and have maximum room to adapt down the line

3s club I have no experience with tbh so that's for the younglings to debate but they should have an equal competition and opportunity as 6s, we should not separate and alienate the two, we should aim to have both running side by side and encourage clubs to play all competitive modes IMO.

Can just keep it named OTP and assign a rating and have it there, doesn't have to be some super deem system just + for win and - for loss and it displays and thats it, something they would have had in classic EASHL and a feature they can tune, but it just needs to be in the game so we can start to maybe improve it. I agree there has to be a casual area of OTP and so the rating is something I think should just be considered your "normal rating" and its just there it is what it is, if you want to play online you have a rating and everyone does type deal. Think it would incentivize more people than it would scare away because right now the issue isn't attracting players to trying online games, it's quality of game being awful in matchmaking or non club environments
