Offsides not called on lone player entering the attack zone skating backwards.

A player was skating backwards into the attack zone all alone and received a pass just before this screenshot. You can plainly see both of his skates over the blue line completely and the puck on his stick in the neutral zone. This is offsides as far as I know.  The skates cannot enter the attack zone before the puck.  I've attached a picture of the player (who was skating towards the goal to the left in this pic).

  • Hi there, @T2HD

You can enter the zone backwards as long as you have control of the puck. This is in line with the NHL rules.

Thanks!  I researched it myself and found this (attached) so I'm still not sure about it.  Thank you for your response.

This is from the NHL rulebook:

    Rule 83.1

A player controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered “off-side,” provided he had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the leading edge of the blue line.

Thank you for that information as well.  I also found this:  The Offside Rule in Hockey Explained

So, the key is control.  It seemed to me that the player had received the pass just as he entered the attack zone so I'm not sure you could say he had "control."  If he'd skated a bit before he crossed the blue line, I'd say yes he had control.  Not that big of a thing though either way.  It's a rare occasion in the game.  I have to say that I'm really enjoying NHL 24 though.  You added a lot of the things we'd requested over the years.  More Legends, breaking glass was brought back, checking players into the player's boxes, and hats being thrown on the ice in celebration of hat tricks.  Now, if only you'd bring back vintage goalie masks (within the creation zone) and allow us to create players without helmets the list would be complete.  Thanks again.
