Threes eliminator is not a mode that should be used as an evaluation point.
Why is getting matched against team names/clubs not fun? What else should you be matched up with? There is a setting to toggle which will allow/deny searching for club games.

There have been quite a few controller changes, plus the game's nuance has changed year over year. I'm also an NHLPA '93 on Sega alumni, so I'm no stranger to new trends causing some angst. I'd suggest to stick with it and try to find a crew of like-minded people to play EASHL Clubs with. It's a FAR better experience than trying to get teamwork with randoms.
That said, this past weekend was the first time I ever played drop-ins and was matched with a club game. The fun and excitement of helping another team win a game and them wanting you to keep playing with them is awesome and something that EASHL was made for.
I wish, for drop-in search, there was an option for 'club games only'. I'd gladly wait longer to match with a club than play outdoors with randoms.
