Rant

I never thought I would find myself on a forum on EA’s website but if it helps them see it then here goes nothin. NHL 25 is seriously the worst experience I’ve had with a video game EVER. Skating is slow. No elite edges or speed boosts whatsoever on club 3’s.. huge L. My AI goaltender is extremely incompetent and yet I can’t score on the opposing goaltender no matter what I do. Passes are picked off no matter where on the ice they are. Opponents are making insanely unrealistic shots (this was a problem in NHL 24 too). Just really disappointing and I really hope that they wake up and change it. NHL 23 was fantastic. I hated 24 at first but warmed up to it eventually. But this game needs to change and it needs to change fast. It’s unplayable.

  • One major change that needs to happen is a buff to the AI goalies in WOC. They are absolutely horrible and extremely inconsistent, letting in bad goal after bad goal, game after game.

AI goalies are only responding to the chances you give the other team. Being out of position will increase the likelihood of your opponent scoring. Being overly aggressive and puck chasing will increase the likelihood of your opponent scoring. It's not like EA programs goalies to miss goals. Their movement, reaction time and even their save animation choice is somewhat dependant on what the humans on the team are doing.

This is the reason you see the constant, never-ending complaint of "Our team has the crappy goalie and the other team's goalie is lights out". Some of you cope by claiming EA just programs it this way, but that's completely untrue and is just avoiding the root of the problem.

You need to generate better chances.

Just need to stop forcing passes. Take your time.

    How so?

There are thousands of players enjoying this game, just online, at any given moment.

I get what you’re trying to do here and I appreciate it. But in the same token you have got to stop being so delusional. Just because it (maybe) works for you doesn’t mean it’s right. It’s not just me, either. Go look at the google reviews literally right now. The 1 stars severely outweigh the 5 stars and the rest. I have tried literally every strategy and build in this 3s mode and have the same issues over and over and over again. It’s not fun and you cannot change my mind about it right now.

It's perspective. We all have views /opinions on how the game is, which we are all allowed to have, no one side should be deemed delusional. To defer one game style is right and the other is wrong isn't that great either, as to some an arcade style experience is boring, unrewarding and lackluster, but find simulated a more rewarding and difficult experience.

To that point, I can say the same thing that NHL 23 was completely unplayable, boring and not worthwhile to play.

Yes but they make the game a pay to play or pay to advance game.  My team consists of 95% AHL players and I get put up vs a team that is all NHL and 85+.  It's ridiculous tbh.  Kinda wish I hadn't bought it now.  And this was the reason I didn't play the last 2 versions.  They need to do a better job putting you against the same type of teams.  Makes it useless and not fun getting smoked every time

This is a HUT-Specific issue. Ultimate Team modes are killing sports videogame franchises. EA is matching you up against teams of NHLers to entice you to spend $$$ to unlock the packs you need to get to the same 'level'.

I will always tell everyone that HUT does not resemble this sport well at all. No parity between player attributes lends itself to one of the most over the top arcade experiences being passed off as 'realism' to unbeknownst players who only have passive interest in OVP, World of Chel or offline modes designed to get the most out of the gameplay.

HUT is designed to get the most $$$ out of people, not to provide any kind of realism.

  • It's all about defensive positioning and momentum.. if their goalie makes a big save it gives them momentum to skate faster and pass better .. then the one-tee is quite over powered if you time it perfectly... and that's all about getting open on offense or taking up space so your teammates can make plays... it's really a simple game ... the goalies could be a bit better in some situations.. backhand for example.. but if you don't jump to hit and miss or try and poke check constantly.. your goalie will make plays .. also getting in opponents shooting lanes to slow the shots down or block to corners helps goalie and your team...

So if you don’t poke check or hit people coming down the ice at all, how is that supposed to make it better for the goalie? Then they have free rein on him and will most certainly score. I get what they’re trying to do with the goalies and how they react to seem more realistic. But it’s not fun or sometimes realistic. Last night some kid on a team one tee’d from the red line literally 3 times in a row behind the goaltender. Stuff like that just doesn’t happen

Hey there. There is no momentum of this kind in the game. There only is the momentum at which your player is moving.

Maybe not momentum specifically.. but can skate back stop the guy right before the goalie on the back check... turn around and call for puck from goalie and change the momentum

I think its more each to their own relating to how they feel about the overall game. I do see the perspective if you play 3v3 and maybe even 6v6 where the gameplay for NHL 25 is not as ideal - its my guess due to the fact that NHL 23 and 24 where more related to an arcade experience whereas NHL 25 is more catered to a Simulated experience.

The speed and stamina were very OP in both games making it less about overall team skill and more about individual performances - where that works on online play, did that make the game better, it would depend who you ask. For myself who appreciated a more simulated and calculated hockey experience compared to a pond hockey experience; I played NHL 23 less then I played NHL 15 (which is still put as one of the worst NHL games ever made), so that says wonders about my opinion of NHL 23.

Now I did hear that it was a better overall experience online but the offline experience was horrid. NHL 24 was slightly better and I played it a bit more but still took less skill overall to complete plays, make passes and just overuse the OP speed and stamina to blow by defensemen, the skate into the corner and cut back out to the slot or the cross crease goal, which made the gameplay unrewarding and lackluster to me (NHL 23 and NHL 24).

The "slower" gameplay is actually more on level to how fast actual players skate in the NHL (at one point it was tested and a full skate for Makar was clocked at the same speed in game as it was in real life), so this is more to how the hockey should feel if you like a non arcade experience - the issue is that for some online modes (where you are playing a non hockey experience and more just a pick up game) simulated doesn't feel as good.

For the goalies online - I still feel like there is an issue where due to it being online and needing to cater to all players skill level that its set to rookie or pro. When I play offline on superstar difficulty my goalies are very competent and can post a few clips of saves if needed (including my teams save of the year). Even the GAA's for my goalies are on par and shots more games are fairly close to each other and reflect the score (also, AI teams goalies or my teams goalies stealing games).

To me; as an offline only player this is the most fun I have had in an NHL game since maybe NHL 21 if not earlier. I get the other perspective cause to me games like NHL 23 were unplayable.
