Update on Matchmaking

The EA SPORTS NHL team is actively listening to community concerns and is prioritizing the investigation of WOC matchmaking issues. We are consistently releasing tuning updates to improve the experience, and we're closely monitoring their impact. Today, we've released an update specifically aimed at addressing high ping games. We appreciate your patience and support during this time.

    Sometimes I wonder.

Do you guys even test your games? Every year it comes out and there's obvious broken things.

Like you keep telling us that there's minimum ressources, but you keep using them to fix issues you've created for no reason.

The matchmaking thing makes no sense. We spend as much time trying to fill a lobby then finding a match via trial and error than playing the game.

We're a week out from the launch and never has player finder discords been so quiet.

Like get actually players to test your game, not just Hut people.

  • Will you also be addressing the issues players are experiencing within HUT? These connection issues aren’t exclusive to WOC, it is all online forums within the game. I have tried contacting EA multiple times regarding this, not a single response has been received.

We're not aware of any connection issues with HUT. You're welcome to start a new thread in the tech support forums to get some help with this.

  • EA_Aljoi have criticized EA heavily over the years. When I said heavily I mean with full length videos, EA PLAY LA events live criticism, etc. Not once have I ever considered refunding a game. This has been the most frustrating year I have ever experienced and willing to consider refund and Better business complaint submission.

    Let's not talk about:

    • abhorrent jittery skating to glides that make players immune to most below 85 bodychecks
    • Push, not hit, being ineffective
    • I Repeat the mentoin of skating and its unrealistic movement
    • One timers ease and exploitation
    • Cross crease pass logic
    • Goalies  AI errors I can see, and anecdotally errors game induced for hunangoalies
    • Penalties being either weak specofically interference, or called without replay so you learn what not to do
    • Replay logic
    • BAP being absolute wan(k)
    • Menus being slow on the fastest consoles of our time
    • Many more

No, none of that tops my frustrating moment with NHL25:

Which is, the attempt to just play the game matchmaking error, problems, times, and general communication of hey we heard you. Absurd. What we really want to know is WHY? WHAT happened? What did we communicate as a fan base to make you all drop that ball?

Why is matchmaking so bad? The one thing you could atleast get right is getting players into the game seamlessly instead that is the biggest current friction. This should never be the case going forward 26,27,28, etc. Matchmaking should never be the issue. Filters should never be an issue. This portion is controllable to the highest extent you know why because you know already that you will make an online game mode for people to play. Please relay  this to the team. I know is not your fault and please don't say "Resources" because there is over $1Billion reasons no one is ever going to take "resources" excuse seriously when the CEO brags to investors about how much money UT makes for them.

Thank you in advance. Rant over.

  • The matchmaking has gotten worse in the last week...

Tonight I kept getting 2v2 after 45secs of searching ...

EXTEND THE SEARCH TIMES FOR TEAMMATES

NOBODY WANTS CPU ON THEIR TEAM OR AGAINST THEIR TEAM

Online gameplay is meant to play with other HUMANS not bots

When it start searching for opponents, you know you can cancel it and restart the search if you're still missing a human teammate, right?

I understand that the other team only have 2 skaters sometimes if the room leader doesnt care.....But there's no reason for you to only have 2 skaters if you don't want to though, you can restart the search as many times as you want until you get the human skaters you want. So if you only have 2 skaters, it's on you for not interupting the search when it switched to search for opponents.

When I'm the room captain, I will always restart the search when it switch to search for opponents... Until I get 5 human skaters.
But I'm seeing a LOT of opposing teams with only 3-4 skaters, sometimes just 2....like, why?? I know there's tons of crashing and invalid game session going on right now though, I've experienced quite a bunch of theses crashes and invalid game too. Pretty annoying.

I've always wondered what goes through peoples mind when they have the dressing room lead and leave the search for opponent going on even though there's still 1 or 2 empty spot in the lineup. Why do they even come in 6s Chel if it's to play with bots...

Nonetheless, I agree with you, the search for teammates AND for opponents should be extended by at least a minute each if needed.

  • Just put in place what you’ve done for years. We have a team of three people, I don’t want to constantly match up against four or five. You copy and pasted the rest of this game, put in the old matchmaking system.

  • This game is even more broken than before. When almost every game starts, you get the pleasure of staring at your player for a few minutes. And if you do get into games, it’s more syncing issues than I’ve ever experienced playing an NHL game.

  • I still have at least 2 friends who still cannot get into a game of WOC. Every time they get into the game it kicks them out

Hello, everyone. Just a quick update on this from the EA NHL Creative Director, Mike Inglehart and the EA NHL studio.

"It is important to note that while the filters have been removed, NHL 25 still considers all aspects of the team construct when players are looking for a match. We are aware that some of our players are experiencing matchmaking issues, and we continue to look at how we can tune the system to improve the overall experience."
