I'd also like to see some way of defending against a check when I don't have the puck ( apologies if this is part of what you meant ). Since EA seems to think it's not a penalty to lay out players long after they've passed or shot the puck there needs to be some way to counter it. At least with the puck you can reverse hit or spin or deke or just rotate your shoulder away from the hit. Once the puck is gone you're a sitting duck.
Or they could call interference penalties correctly, but I'm not holding my breath.
If I recall correctly, last year, there was a small window of frames after you passed the puck where you could actually execute a reverse hit in the scenario where you need to get a puck off quick while immediately fending off a check.
It seems this window is non-existent this year.
