I can only speak for myself but I haven't spent a dime in HUT. My team is a 97 overall. I did it from events making at least 1 new card per event if not 2 during certain ones. I just logged on daily did my dailies. Completed the pass to get all the stuff and would do the weekly objectives. It added up over time.
