EASHL Goalies

A lot of posts about goalies but why not one more.. perhaps under a different lense though..

First lets examine the stats..

In 3v3 global rankings top 8 players and sorted by shooting percentage we have..

NHL 25: 49.45%

NHL 26: 56.1%

In 6v6 global rankings top 8 players and sorted by shooting percentage we have..

Nhl 25: 43.9%

NHL 26: 49.45%

Need more evidence? Let's look at goals per game, using the same as above.

In 3v3

Nhl 25: 4.7

NHL 26: 5.9

In 6v6

NHL 25: 3.8

NHL 26: 5

Let's look at human goalies save percentage.. this is where things actually get extremely interesting...

3v3

Nhl 25 77.6

Nhl 26 80.5

6v6

Nhl 25 81.8

Nhl 26 83.5

This means despite forwards having a better shooting percentage, human goalies have a better save percentage. Now I'm not sure if human goalies are out playing cpu goalies or how an average human compares to a cpu goalie but I actually like this shift. EASHL is far better when everyone is human. When cpu players are better than an average or even below average human then players have no reason to look for additional players and sorted running with the minimum number is ideal and gives them their best chance of winning. These are often the teams that cherrypick or blame average teammates for their mistakes.

So, is the cpu goalie bad? Get a human goalie and play vs other human goalies. Is the cpu defense bad? Get human defenders. Can't find a goalie or defender? There are discords, Facebook groups, Playstation groups, forums, drops in, etc. Still can't find one? Maybe try playing those positions yourself because there are a whole LOT of forwards. EASHL desperately needs less clubs of 2-3 and more clubs of 6 Or even 4 (for 3's) my suggestion is to find equally good people. Take some losses and learn. Of someone complains about defense or goalie or w/e have them play that position to get an idea of the struggles, maybe they can stay at that position if they actually are better there. EASHL needs more human goalies. It is often a thankless position but based on the numbers, if this becomes a trend human goalies are gonna be the way to go. Also human goalies are just in general WAY more fun to play against because you can't just use the exact same moves that you can do blindfolded vs cpu goalies.

I've done some testing at free skate, and AI EASHL goalies are much better at stopping shots from distance than they were last year, but they're terrible against basic dekes. It's almost impossible to score in free skate from long range — I'm getting around 10-15% shooting percentage with wrist shots (90 wrist power/accuracy). But every breakaway goes in. I consider goalies are broken.

    Agreed 10000%

    Well said.

    Exactly.

EA needs to allow drop-in players (free agents) to select an option to find club games only. Simultaneously, EA needs to give Club Room hosts the ability to actually boot free agents mid-game if they're causing problems.

We're on year 15 of EA allowing trolls to dictate the game for everyone else and that needs to end.

I'd love to see this happen and as always, will pass on that feedback. It's been brought up in the past. I just don't know if a system is going to be put in place as there have always been bigger priorities to work on.

    I hear ya.

I would make a case that an investment into providing tools for Club Captains to combat trolls would be a quality-of-life improvement that would drive more users to EASHL. It would incentivize more clubs to adopt free agents, knowing they can boot them if things go south. In turn, with more clubs adopting free agents, more drop-in players get to play actual club games and would likely spend more time in the mode.

Knowing you can get booted would likely compel users to try and be the best teammates they can versus now; a free agent can take total control of a game if they're not 100% satisfied with how the game is going.

I just think these quality-of-life improvements have a larger effect on the player base and are worth the time to implement.

I completely agree. I'd love to see a system for club captains to boot players. I sincerely hope it happens. The thing is, building this is probably a pretty significant project. It would mean forgoing work on other features/issues the community is requesting. Which is why I'm saying it's most likely not as high a priority.  Hopefully, that changes because I'm sure it only takes one game of drop-ins to scare new players off from trying them again.
