IIHF content
Every since I was a kid I've been a massive fan of international hockey and IIHF tournaments, so when EA Sports and the IIHF announced a licensing agreement in December 2021, I was ecstatic.
However since then, I've been a bit disappointed as it seems IIHF content seems to get neglected every single year and here's a few reasons why.
1) This is a direct quote from the EA Sports/IIHF press release in December of 2021:
"In all, 24 IIHF Member National Associations will be represented in NHL 22, with more to come in future installments."
Since December 2021, the only nation that has been added is China's women's team. How come we aren't getting any others?
2) In tournament mode, regardless of which event (World Championship, World Juniors, Women's Worlds), why is there no Bronze medal game? Seems a bit odd that the tournament mode just ends if you lose in the semi-finals. There was a bronze medal game added with the new updates to Be A Pro this year, why can't we get one in tournament mode?
3) This is the one that probably irks me the most. There are so many out of date and no longer used IIHF jerseys in the game and if EA can update/change jerseys for every other league licensed in the game, why can't it be done for IIHF jerseys that have been overlooked, for the most part, since Dec. 2021?
Here are some of the jerseys that are either missing or need updating:
- Canada's black & white heritage jerseys.
- USA's blue & white heritage jerseys.
- - Updates needed for Sweden's (darker blue).
- - Czechia home & away. (Haven't worn lion on their jerseys since 2023!).
- - Norway. Darker blue on both sweaters.
- - Slovenia (using old Nike template).
