I don't really like the options that you're describing either, but I believe that it's the way it handles the players position which is what they are doing when you're no longer controlling a that player after switching to a different player. However, if I'm incorrect please do not hesitate to post the proper explanation.
you can't "switch" to another player in Be A Pro. you only control your player the entire game and that's why I said the AI teammates don't do what their supposed to do. I'd love to 'play' my position but it's impossible to do so because to get a good form score every game (so you can stay in the NHL), you have to score points. so to score points you have to, in essence, become a forward, which would leave your main position open. then if you do play in your position but go to help, your AI teammates won't cover for you and the other team usually scores. then if you push to get a goal (because of form score) and the other team breaks out. my own teammates usually (90% of the time) skates backwards and then skates out of the way leaving the shooter to shoot on the goalie. no stick check, no stick lift, and definitely no body check.
