Hi there. You need to get drafted first. Then when you start a new career, you'll be able to start directly in the NHL.

I'm pretty sure this must also happen on your first playthrough, meaning there must be no previous be a pro save or it won't work.

This Be a pro is different the first time anyway, the whole gameplay is different the first time, e.g. for me the AI "forces" me into a juniors bronze game the first time but when I start another be a pro, the AI's compelling need to win is completely gone and I can influence things myself. This is like a curse.
