The team captain can turn this option off in the match settings.
Options for drop in, are game type and allow club games. Options for club are, game type allow drop in Goalie. Allow drop in skaters, use best game location. I can technically disable club but not for drop, but 2v2 with Ai on club isn’t fun and for drop its not an option. Let’s say I want to play 3s, my buddy goes F and I go D to make the matchmaking go faster, now in 23 it would automatically say, finding opponents and say we get in the lobby, now from there any random player would join to fill that spot and that’s it. Queuing in a nutshell wasn’t that bad. Now what it does is they try to find a teammate before getting into a lobby and that alone is what’s making the whole experience unbearable. We don’t mind having a random player to fill in, It would just be better to make a player join when we find the opponents for club or drop. Before, drop in players that queue for 3s or 6s couldn’t join club games now they can, But why not make them join when we find opponents, alot of players can join a lobby with the queue being 1-2 minutes when the lobby is already made, like it used to be. Back to my point, finding teammates is just slowing everything down. It’s not about disabling people from joining, it’s how the system operates that’s slowing everything down.
Finding opponents before matchmaking allows for more time to find opponents. It also means everyone isn't waiting in the lobby while players come and go. It's also possible that could cause a desync before the game starts. You should be able to find teammates relatively quickly though. Unless you're in a region with a lower pool of players. Also, there needs to find players with a reasonable ping. So, if you and your teammate are in an area that doesn't have a lot of other players, it could take longer to find others with a good ping. Something else to consider is that the player pool should grow when worldwide launch happens tomorrow.
We definitely took the game launching tomorrow into consideration for our long Q times but this is a issue we’ve had since NHL24. Our region is high when it comes to players, we’ve always had extremely fast Q times before 24, no matter when we would play, day or night, our Q times would be like 20 to 40 seconds. We live the opposite of what you said, it always takes us minutes to find teammates but we find our opponents extremely fast. Our average Q time is literally 5-10 minutes and it’s honestly unbelievable cause we’ve never lived this. Merging both opponents and teammates make the Q so much faster. In 23, we would join a server against a full team and we would have to wait like 10 seconds before a teammate would join. It was a much smoother experience. The UI is extremely laggy which makes it so much worse, i’m on a PS5 pro and I feel like i’m back on PS4 when I’m scrolling through the UI. I literally get kicked out if I scroll through fast, I can’t never confirm my builds cause it just freezes and I have to start over. The gameplay isn’t even our problem, getting into a lobby is the challenge. Also, sometimes we’ll be in a 5 minute Q with no intention of joining but the second I try to cancel Q, I magically get into a game so I don’t know if that’s a bug. It’s happened like 8 times so far. Since this new system came out, I average 40-60 ms and we have to leave to get our average ping, that takes in another 5 minutes. In 23, I would have 8ms to 20ms no exceptions. The come and go you mentioned was why the system wasn’t laggy, the matchmaking was simple, Q and find lobby. Now it’s, find teammates, that takes 2-3 minutes, find opponents which is faster but still slow, the game bugs and we literally just Q for 5 minutes with no progression. In older NHLs, having it all into one was simply faster and smoother. I’m not hating or whining, I keep thinking something is gonna change but it stays the same or gets worse. When you preorder the deluxe edition, it would definitely be nice to be able to play more than 3 games in 2-3 hours. I understand why you guys focus on HUT more but we’ve been playing EASHL for 10+ years and it’s sad the way it’s treated. I keep thinking it’s gonna get touched and it’s disappointing to see it never get fixed. It’s pushing away my buddies and I cause we literally buy the game to play WOC. We don’t even log sometimes cause we’ll know we’ll be watching the UI/Menu almost our whole session.
Can you get some video showing the UI being extremely laggy? It's obviously not quick, but it shouldn't be extremely laggy. That sounds like it could be a connection issue which also could be part of the long wait times. I have played some 2s games with a buddy and we're finding matches quickly in 6s. I'm in Texas, he's in PA. That gives me an average ping of 60. So, we're not exactly close to each other. Are you playing on a wireless connection?
WoC is always a big focus since it's one of the most popular modes. This year, offline got more attention than anything else. HUT isn't the sole focus. Previously, we put a lot of work into Franchise. WoC has had many updates in the last 10 years so I can't agree with your comment about it never being touched.
As far as the connection problem you're talking about not getting fixed, connections are always tricky. They're heavily dependent on the users equipment and ISP. I've invested quite a bit into my equipment and it's extremely rare I have lag or disconnects. We can tell when there's a problem with the servers and are normally quick to get those resolved. At the moment, we're not aware of anything on our end that would cause what you're experiencing, but as always, we monitor for any issues.
