I won’t go too deep into gameplay itself – there’s already a ton written about how bad it is and how many technical issues it has. I play both offline and online.
Online issues that really bother me:
0. Matchmaking – I’ve been playing for a while, but I can’t raise my rating because I constantly get matched against players way above my rank. This puts me at a big disadvantage. How am I supposed to improve when I’m Silver 1 and I’m up against Blue or even Fire? It’s impossible to beat them, so I just keep dropping in rank! Doesn’t matter if it’s Clubs, Drop-ins, 3v3, or 5v5.
AI Goalies – they come out of the net way too much. It’s unbelievable how often they leave the goal wide open for an easy score.
Backhand/forehand shots – scoring is way too easy. About 95% of the time it’s a goal. Sad :( Everyone abuses this, so there’s zero hockey IQ or tactics in the game. It’s just skate straight to the goalie and score.
High latency – servers feel bad. I have 1 Gb/s permanent internet, never had a problem in any other game. I checked everything – my internet is TOP.
WOC bugs – when I change my club’s logo, it only changes in the locker room, but in games the old one is still there. Same issue with name changes.
Slowdowns – sometimes my player suddenly slows down during a match, and it’s very noticeable!
Goalie reaction delay – after a rebound, goalies stand frozen for about 1 second before moving back to the net. Any rebounder just scores into an empty net.
Player creation is frustrating – why do I need to rename every single Pro and Non-Pro player? Why can’t I set one name that applies to all my players? Yes, I know there’s copy, but it doesn’t work properly at all!
Penalties – sometimes completely nonsense calls. Even in replays you can’t see a foul. Body checks are called penalties randomly, and in the exact same situation sometimes it’s not a penalty. How does that make sense?
This is just a small part of what frustrates me. If at least the game was polished, with solid gameplay, realistic player and puck physics, smarter online AI, and without carrying over the exact same bugs from previous years, it could be a great game I’d actually look forward to. Right now it’s just frustrating.
