Spending real money equals rewards?

So my partner and I decided to try something. She brought a pack and I did not.

Now we are the same progress level but after she purchased a pack she was rewarded (on a level up) a 86 player. 
I noted at the same time I was not.

EA are you rewarding people who spend real world money? Because it looks like it
