Ranked system in HUT feels unfair

I am a long-time NHL player who buys the game every year because NHL is my favorite game, especially HUT. However, I am very concerned about the new Ranked system in HUT mode. Since release, I’ve played daily, but without placement matches like in past years, players of all skill levels face each other. This results in me constantly meeting much stronger opponents, losing about 30 of 40 games.

In previous years I was usually around Division 4–5, matches were balanced, competitive, and fun. Now it is frustrating and demotivating, especially since rewards are tied to higher divisions, leaving me with nothing. What makes it worse is that Ranked is now the only way to play online in HUT, so players not already in high divisions can’t enjoy the mode and only keep losing.

I believe this system is unfair and hurts dedicated players. Please reconsider adding placement matches or fairer matchmaking like in previous NHL titles.

  • Also remember the game is in the early access stage so there will be more players as the game goes along.

To add on to what KlariskraysNHL mentioned, early release is typically the most hardcore players. Chances are excellent the level of competition is going to be higher. You'll probably see more varied opponents after the game fully releases tomorrow.

Is that the developer’s vision? The lower skilled, new, and handicapped players should wait and grind offline while the big boys play and compete?

  • It's super sweaty even on silver. Every team you face are pulling every exploit in the game + ragging on international rink. If you were lower than div 2 last year you likely won't get anywhere near gold. I was div 2 last year and top 300 in champs but I'm already facing better opponents at silver. You win couple then lose couple so you're not moving anywhere. It's incredibly frustrating system.

  • I’ve also been an adamant HUT player since NHL 14, I can confidently say this is the worst system we’ve ever had. Something has to change the ranked ladder is an absolute disaster for most of all players. Progression is such a daunting task you can get 1 win away from promotion, have a couple unlucky games and then all of the sudden you need to win 3 straight just to get back to where you started. The demotivate is real.
