Future of NHL games (27 included)
So I’m merely attempting this discussion to voice some concerns of mine but to hope for change for the future of NHL games. This convo can carry on for years but idc as long as it gets the people (and devs) talking but I’ll try to keep this initial post as short as possible.
I’m seeing these many different videos of NHL27 and I’m having mixed reviews (will probably still get it cause my friends and I play EASHL and I love that mode) but I want to get big conversations going and I understand that everyone will feel differently (I only play EASHL so I’ll be speaking to that only) and please be respectful.
- Game feels slow in my honest opinion. I watch hockey and they guys fly up and down the ice. The game speed should be much faster and I don’t just mean make skaters faster. The entire game should feel like what we watch on TV. We should have the option to slow our pace down not the opposite.
- Goalies have been weak for so long. I personally think goalies should be INCREDIBLY hard to score on. It should require us to wear down the goalie with shots, having him slide left to right constantly, blind him with big body screens, etc. too many times the goalie may as well just not be there. To add onto that there are times where the goalie slides when they don’t have to. I’ll play perfect defense where there will be NO PASS and they still leave the post. Snipes are pretty non existent as well. Have goalies on a random algorithm to mix up how to fool people on breakaways. Poke check stops the goalie from moving this but incorporate some diving pokes randomly, pad stacks, glove robberies etc. it’s too easy and too predictable currently.
- Not a fan in the slightest of X Factors/superstar abilities. They are too strong or non existent. I’d rather just take them away and use my brain and teammate chemistry to get wins. 6 shots and 4 goals cause someone has red beauty backhand or whatever overpowered factor is not fun even with perfect defense. Truculence is bad and overpowered, backhand beauty is overpowered. If you don’t have wheels or elite edges then you’re immediately at a disadvantage, quick release has been pretty bad too and by bad I am meaning they are overpowered. I feel like every player type shouldn’t be allowed to have access to every one (my vote is still obviously to just get rid of them and allow us to just have freedom with attributes points BUT a set number of attribute points and (like said) decrease the amount. It’s like every time I get on (which isn’t much) there’s another 100 points I can add to my player.
- Give attributes a pro/con system and make them work together. If we make our player bigger then they can be really strong but slower and less agile and if we improve something then something should decrease. If I want to protect puck then I should be strong. Good screens/deflections? Big body, high hand eye, good positioning etc. I would even say to add more attributes to put points on (but also not give out so many points) why is backhand shot not an attribute we can choose to increase? I say add stick lift and poke checking as something as well instead of tying into 1 thing.
- More customization options like stick curve and skate radius different curves and skate radius should have different effects. Maybe better slap shot but not so good wrist shots. A particular radius will help with tighter turns but effect straight speed. I have NO idea why they were taken out. But battle pass options why not include skates with pro/cons, elbow guards, shin guards. You grind for some gear and it is increases your speed but maybe drops something as a trade-off. Makes you think. Also why were player types like Jumbo playmaker and jumbo snipers taken out? I’m not a fan of “moose” or “alien” type builds and I don’t use them but give us some more realistic ones before the goofy ones.
- AI skaters (obv goalies too) should be infinitely better.
- Bring back match club size
- Make EASHL playoffs matter
- EASHL is competitive matchmaking. Let us use our brains and chemistry to win. Not X Factors that bypass doing everything right to get scored on constantly. Keep the arcade style play in those game modes (ones, threes, drop ins etc.). This game has the perfect mix to do both arcadey hockey and realistic hockey. I think there may be more but I don’t wanna drag this first post more than it already has been. I want the devs to see this and get some great ideas to move the game forward and not keep things relatively the same and get some genuine excitement for this franchise.
