NHL 27

2BC Production 2BC has put out a video on YouTube about the problems with NHL 27 called Crease Chaos NHL 27 .. I urge you to watch it...I would post a link but I've seen some  taken down

  • That is more than enough “VIDEO” to show what’s wrong with this game.

  • Interesting video.

I play be a pro on Superstar difficulty and when I try to do a cross crease pass the defenders pick mine off most of the time, you have to make a perfect pass for it to connect. I have seen a couple goals go in off the defenders but most of the time at least in my games the Goalie saves it. They do need to fix this with an update because the defenders do have a tendency to knock the puck back to their Goalie when you do a cross-crease pass. I don't remember this happening as much in NHL 26?

  • His Cross Crease Cheese argument is incorrect. He states "there's nothing you can do" and then proceeds to show videos of people

    Being out of position:

And not fully grasping that you need to engage the open man and not just stand there, expecting an automated action to bail you out:

Now I agree an adjustment made to the reaction-time penalty should be made so the automated actions in these scenarios happen more often as evidenced in his example with the Orca build , but it needs to be balanced so that players can't just sit and park themselves in passing lane while not engaging the open man:

It's kind of wild to me that EA's philosophy has CLEARLY been active defending, yet people still fall back to the habits we all learned back in NHL 12-15, where just sitting in the passing lane was enough.

I'm not stating whether it's a good or bad thing, so please keep the pitchforks at bay. I'm just stating that EA wants you to engage the intended pass recipient on these plays by way of incidental contact, a shove or a stick lift. They've been consistent on this the last few years. Again this is not an endorsement and I'm not trying to debate what 'real hockey' is or how the game 'should' be, just trying to inform people so they get the most out of the game's current state.

Also, poke check is not an 'intercept pass' button. It's an action that, when timed incorrectly, has the consequence of not being able to execute a subsequent action. Furthermore, it disables any automated pickups/interceptions. This is a pure lack of understanding of how the poke check mechanic works and it's underlying risk-reward system.

He's bang on about goalies and defensive actions resulting in too many own-goals though.

you have to set this slider too

Pass Speed Reception Effect: 50-65 for safest spot, you set it to 0-45, chaos will erupt in crease, always ask AI , before searching put 'NHL 27 or 26 and ask question' like where out this setting at safest spot.

  • The huge number of interceptions is actually the reason why players play without passing, instead trying to weave through the entire rink on their own. The AI intercepts passes far too often. In "Be a Pro," I personally can't seem to pull off interceptions because the puck just goes right under the stick like this:

Btw. 2BCproduction videos is very good. (even though they are spiced with fairly forthright opinions.)

It's not the greatest angle for the video so hard to tell if it's really going under the stick. However, the defender has their back turned to the play and one hand on their stick. They're not in a good position to make an interception. If you're seeing players not make interceptions when facing the play, and they have enough time to react, get a video so we can review it for any issues. Thanks!

Again, this is a perfect example of what I was saying:

The timing is spot-on and the blade is in the right place; the fact that it is too high is something we cannot control. The AI hits the puck from there with 100% accuracy.

There is no timing mechanic in this scenario though. This is a travelling puck, and the poke check mechanic is not intended to target the puck in this scenario.

A poke check will always target where the puck is at the frame when the poke check button it pressed. So in the above scenario, it stands to reason that your poke would be inaccurate by design. (again, this is just an opinion on how the mechanic works and not an endorsement. I'm not here to debate what 'real hockey' is. I'm just trying to outline what I interpret the intended design to be)

The intended method for intercepting the pass in this scenario is to actively skate towards the passing lane without taking any actions (no poke checking, no body checking, and avoid using the hustle) and this would trigger the interception pickup animation.

I've always had the impression that it's the disconnect between what defenders need to do to intercept a pass ( like you said, thumbs off the stick and pray the animation kicks in ) versus what the target of the pass needs to do to receive it ( skate full speed, spin, have your back to the play, basically anything they want ) that is generating most of the frustration from defensive players.   Defense has essentially zero room for error while on offense it's incredibly difficult to not pick up a pass that's anywhere near you.

I'm not sure what the solution is.  Making defensive interceptions as easy as offensive receptions probably makes for generally frustrating gameplay as well.   Maybe an "attempt interception" button with some kind of downside to prevent spamming it is the way to go.  It would fit in more with the "active defense" mantra.
