What height/weight are you running? I’m assuming you’re used to past games though and you haven’t made your player too small.
Try to be mindful of when you initiate the RS to trigger a hit; don’t hold it for very long before attempting, try for once you’re quite close to your target. Can also help to be moving slower and not charging full speed when going for the hit.
I'm 6'3 225. I would say my RS mechanics are pretty solid. I don't like taking cheap hits, but I've even tried blindsiding a few guys just to see what happens, and they almost always slip thru. Frustrating.
But like I said, I don't wanna complain too much b/c overall I enjoy the game more than last year.

You're definitely right, we shouldn't be forced to max sliders to do simple things out on the ice; I'm not really an offline player so I personally prefer just going ham and becoming a god when I can.
The problem stems from the AI having near perfect reaction time - they're able to see you coming so they just angle you out, even with max settings. If you set your pressure to high, you should be able to create a pincer attack of sorts.
