I’ve been playing chel for 10 years. I promise you I didn’t just forget how to take face offs to that side.
It's showing you're too early. Somehow, it's being registered that you're making a move to win the puck instead of just put your stick out to the left. We're getting very few reports of this and haven't' been able to reproduce it ourselves. Is the firmware up to date on the controller?

Yes I updated the firmware this morning

I assume it's still happening then? In your video, the game is detecting that you're pressing up. I've been trying to reproduce this, but haven't been able to. I assume you don't have another console you can test this on as well? - 5 years ago
I still have this problem every now and then with right handed centerman, I'm convinced that the margin of error for stick placement is not balanced. I never feel like I get a false early warning with left-handed centerman
More imortantly why can't you see your stick positioning when you replay faceoffs? That would be a way easier way to solve this instead of asking your customers to keep setting a camera on a tripod and recording your hands on a controller and the game at the same time which as a video professional I can say with confidence is not easy to shoot because of focusing and lighting/dynamic range issues. If you had the ability to press replay and showed the stick positions during faceoffs we could just use the built-in screen recording software and we could all get answers to this issue

I agree that it would be great to see the stick movement, but that only happens for the player actively carrying the puck. Since no one has possession until after the faceoff, it's not going to show the stick movements until someone has the puck. Another way to test this though might be to go into practice mode and take control of the puck and let go of the sticks. Check the replay to see if they aren't quite centered when they're carrying the puck. You can also take possession and stick handle to the left to see if it matches with where you're aiming with the stick.

Any fix for this yet it happens to me as well with a right handed center on nhl 21 on ps5. Every time I try to take a back hand face off online only. He just jumps and says I am early if I hold 9 o’clock he will continue to jump early also is I hold 7 to 8 o’clock he still jumps early I have 3 ps5 controllers and they all do it so I know it’s not my controller

Same problem here, just occured, and have now been ongoing for a couple of days.
Please don't blame my controllers or my skille, this is definately a software bug........... - EA_Aljo5 years ago

Can you get me a video of this happening? Make sure you hit Y/Triangle to remove the replay controls and show the controller overlay.
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
OK,
But how do I make a video with controller overlay visible?
- EA_Aljo5 years ago

You'll need to pause the game. Then, go to Instant Replay. Then, hit Y/Triangle to remove the playback controls and display the controller overlay.

This is a video of one of the faceoff bugs.
Don’t know how to include the controller overlay!!

Please see my previous post for instructions on showing the overlay. If you're having trouble with those, please tell me which steps are confusing. The controller overlay is only visible in replays. It looks like you're pressing up. So, chances are good that your controller has a bit of drift or your stick is aimed more around 10-11:00 than 9:00.

I am following your instructions in regards to instant replay and video upload.
However the video isn’t showing the controller overlay.
Is there a way to turn on controller overlay or a function in setiings or any other places?

We'll go through this step by step. First, what system are you playing on? Also, are you able to find which button to press to pause the game? If so, do you see where it says Instant Replay?
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
I play on the PS 4.
When playing I hit the options button and then I get access to the instant replay menu.
In the instant replay menu I hit the triangle button, and upload the video to my YouTube channel. - EA_Aljo5 years ago

Great! Just embed the video here or provide a link to them and I'll check them out. Also, would you be able to try another controller just to rule out any issues with it?
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
I have tried another controller, same results.
I have linked to the video previously in this thread.

I saw the video, but it doesn't show the controller overlay so I can't see where your stick is aimed.
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
Back to square one then.
How do I get the video to show the controller overlay?
I am following your steps, but the overlay isn’t showing.

Can you view the instant replay screen? You should see the playback controls at the bottom. Look for the button that says "Hide". It's right between Height and Camera. That is the button you hit to remove the playback controls and show the controller overlay. It is going to be Y if you're on Xbox or Square if you're on PlayStation.
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
Okay, I will try that.
I was under the impression that triangle was the hide button.
I will post a new video and get back to you again

Yes. It hides the playback controls so the controller overlay is displayed.
Also, I'm leaving in a few minutes and will be gone until Tuesday. I won't be able to respond until then, unfortunately. The best I can advise is to pay attention to where the stick is being aimed when you're trying to take faceoffs. So far, we haven't found any issues with this and these reports have always been either controller related or due to someone just not moving their stick to 9:00. If you're a little above that, more like 10:00, your player will make the animation that yours is.
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
Thanks, I will have a closer look
- Hjalle_DK5 years agoRising Rookie
Now I finally got the controller overlay to work.
The problem now is, that it only shows the overlay when I am in puck position, and I am not in puck position under the face-off situation, which means there is nothing to look at.
I have done a full reset on both my controllers. The problem only occurs when I have my right thumb stick to the left.
Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions. So far, we have had a very small number of reports on this. Each time it was found to be a faulty controller or they weren't aiming directly at 9:00 with the right stick. Is this happening in every mode?
