Also, I wanted to add another new idea. This isn't creation zone related, but it would make the game more comparable and/or realistic to real life NHL broadcasts.
Also, I'm just explaining this in words because it is not something complex to take in or visualize, so I will only write, and not use pictures as much as I'd love to.
In NHL 22, the in-game scoreclock, as it has been since NHL 20, is at the bottom of the screen. However, if you look at a real life NHL broadcast on your TV, you'll see that the scoreclock will be small, and will most likely be in the upper left or right hand-corner, or, covering the top of the screen entirely. If this type of scoreclock were to be incorporated into the game (which it has, but was taken away in the release of NHL 20), it would make the overall feel of the game, and the actual hockey simulation part of the game more comparable to real life hockey. This is not something that is major, essential, and must be looked at immediately, it is just something that I, and others feel would make the game feel like we are actually watching an NHL game.
One real-life scoreclock I remember from previous broadcasts (2017 and previous) was the white scoreclock at the very top of the screen. I also remember the very nice scoreclocks from a decade ago. I believe that this white scoreclock is still used in specific broadcasts today. I also believe that it is a SportsNet scoreclock.
One thing that I don't quite understand is, if you go into NHL Threes, and go into an exhibition or circuit game, you will see a scoreclock in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Same thing applies for a Threes Eliminator Tournament when you are the Nighthawks or Ice Breakers. If this can be a thing in WOC and NHL Threes, then why can't it be a thing everywhere else? Again, the main scoreclock for pretty much every game mode was changed in NHL 20, compared to NHL 19.
Heck, NHL 19 even had the NBCSN icon in the upper-right hand corner of the screen, along with the scoreclock on the left side.
To sum this up, I am trying to explain that the NHL 19 scoreclock (or something similar), should be brought back to the game to increase the realistic feeling of NHL 22, or, any future titles. It has been a good 2 years of the new scoreclock at the bottom of the screen in-game (since NHL 20, which was released in 2019), and a good 3 game titles (NHL 20, NHL 21, NHL 22). For NHL 23, I think this should be debated for change, because I think that 3 game titles later, and 2 full years of the same scoreclock is a bit too long.
Or, this can be brought about as a small likeness update in the future for the current NHL 22.
Now, I want to talk about the current in-game commentary for NHL 22, and compare it to commentary in previous titles.
If you listen to a regular announcer in a real life NHL broadcast, the announcer is usually in a calm and collected tone (unless that announcer is Doc, of course) from play-to-play, even on goals and good chances. Even on a goal, the announcer usually acknowledges it in a sort of flat tone, with little to no excitement in his/her voice, followed by bonus commentary on the goal with replays, the type of goal, what plays lead to the goal, etc.
I am not trying to say that the commentary from Cybulski (NHL 20, 21, 22 main in-game announcer) is way over the top, I am just suggesting that his commentary style gets dumbed down a bit to fit in with real-life announcers, or, just remove him entirely in NHL 23.
If there were more real-life NHL announcers that were always full of enthusiasm play-by-play, Cybulski being in the game would be completely fine. Regarding Ferraro, (which has been in the game as an announcer way before Cybulski), I don't think real-life announcers make extra comments on a player missing a shot. Real life announcers usually just say "shot wide by player", and move on to the next play. In-game, one of the two announcers will eventually get cut off mid-sentence because they continue talking about a previous play/event, instead of going play-by-play. Other than that, I have no concerns with Ferraro being in-game.
Off-topic question, is Cybulski even a real announcer?
Again, it has been a good 3 full game titles with Cybulski as an in-game announcer. I think it would be best for change next year.
To sum this all up, I think that we should get a likeness update for NHL 22 regarding scoreclocks and/or presentation, and something that is closer to real life NHL broadcasts, or, just have this as a brand new feature for NHL 23. Also, something should be done about Cybulski in-game. Either remove him from the game entirely, or move him to specific game modes only, or, just dumb down his commentary style to make the game feel like players are watching an actual NHL game.
Not that enthusiastic and exciting commentary isn't what to expect in an NHL game, I am only pointing this out from experience.
Thank you.
Miscellaneous: Could we get a feature added where an instant replay is shown of the bench jumping up after an OT goal, along with the entire bench skating off to the goal-scorer? (As seen in real-life, again)
