NHL 20 HUT - My ping is always around 40-45MS or higher.

I'm in New Brunswick, Canada.

I noticed when playing in the GWC this week, that when i have a ping around 30ms, which is rare,, I have a good fighting chance to win the games. Sometimes players are just better than me, and win. Fair enough.  But for the most part. I handle my own.

About 80% of the time, my ping is 40ms or higher, and in those games, i don't stand a chance. Guys are poking the puck off my stick when they aren't even in range. The puck gets knocked out of my possession when the opposing players are too far away from me to cause any disruptions. My passes don't seem to direct the way I'm directing it. This NEVER happens when my ping is around 30ms. Poke check is almost useless as it will almost 100% of the time draw a tripping penalty. I've re-watched penalty replays and was about 3 feet from skaters feet and they go flying.

If I give up the puck in the offensive zone for any reason, might even be that my defense fired it up the boards and it gets stopped by the forward who was way to far away to even grab the puck, but somehow warps over and grabs the puck ( they have a much LOWER ping )  its impossible to get back in time to stop the fateful one timer goal.

I'm competitive. How is it fair to host a tournament with such obvious handy-caps?

This is only really bad in the GWC Tourni. HUT Rivals isn't as bad from what i can tell.

Why is my ping running so low? How far away is the server i'm connecting to? I've seen in Europe you added servers to correct this issue. I know i'm not the only person in Eastern Canada dealing with this.

Do you have servers close to eastern Canada (Ontario is not east)?

    Hello, @ThirdMisener.

Can you get some video of pokes being successful when they don't actually touch the puck? That's something we'd need to see. That way the dev team is aware and can look into resolving it.

I too play on an average of 45ms. Games feel smooth and lag is extremely rare. Do you play on a wired or wireless connection? As far as servers go, you shouldn't be terribly far from one, but the 45ms ping should be ok.

Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot. But i'll get one next time it happens. I'm not in the GWC anymore, so i won't be able to test from those games. They seemed to be much different.

I'm assuming that when i have a ping of 45ms, and the opponent has a ping of 10ms, that's where I'm seeing a difference on the ice. That delay is enough to give a huge handy cap at the level we play at.

But i couldn't be sure as I've never run a trace on it or anything. I play on Wired primarily. But sometimes connect wireless in certain rooms. I was wired for the GWC. I've done all the trouble shooting a person can do at this point.

It just sucks that it was so bad on the GWC servers. Like i said, on the Rival servers, I only see the issue once in a while.

    @ThirdMisener

You should always stay wired. It's going to be more stable than wireless.

Can you tell me what troubleshooting you've done so we don't repeat anything? Did you open ports, try alternate DNS servers, enable QoS and enable UPnP?

Yeah I've done all of that.  I'm not certain what else there is to do. That's why i was asking about the servers.. lol

We're not aware of any issues with the servers, but there's nothing wrong with a 40 - 45ms ping. The internet, in general, is seeing a big increase in traffic. This can contribute to slower connections.
