Madden is more popular than the NHL only in America. In Europe and the rest of the world, it is not so interesting to people and hockey is loved much more here.
There are more people in North America purchasing Madden than Europeans buying NHL, though.
- And if you add up the number of people in Europe, America and the rest of the world who love hockey? This number will obviously be higher.
It's worth mentioning that having the game on Gamepass for PC would likely also help grow the fanbase of the sport and series.

Game was released for free a week or two back in EA Access and population is just as bad, if not worse now - Saw a bunch of teams in my recently played tab marked as disbanded lol.
You might be able to pull off something like gamepass at the start of the year when the regulars are ramped up and ready to play, but the whole system is kind of only monetarily viable for smaller, more niche properties - If EA is already concerned about profit margins for a PC port at $~100, that's even more they'd need to make up in HUT- @TTZ_Dipsy Thats kind of ridiculous to think people should spend 300 bucks on outdated hardware. People who want PC ports dont waste their money on consoles
