Re: Input lag

@Chaseinator5

We have people that monitor server status for issues. This happens across all of our games. We also watch our various channels for reports on widespread outages. Unfortunately, when a small number of reports come in, such as in this thread, it's extremely difficult to find out what is causing it. As I've said numerous times, we don't have the ability to test everyone's setup. This would require having every modem/router combination available as well as being able to test a specific ISP from a specific region. There's a near-infinite number of variables. when the vast majority of players aren't reporting issues, it doesn't let us easily find out why others are lagging.

  • This forum is literally designed for people to come to to report their issues/bugs. You're telling me that when a large number of people report this issue on a thread on the website designed to report these problems, that there isn't enough reports of it and you need people mentioning it elsewhere?

I don't think anyone is asking you to try every single internet setup. However, running tests with let's say two people in Seattle (I think there is a server around there), but one with wireless sub 50 Mb/s internet, the other with Gb/s+ fibre internet would be a good benchmark to test the lag comp issue.

And then testing two people with equal internet service, one who lives 1000's of km from the server being used and another who lives right next to it, and compare the latency effect.

Just some ideas, that yes are oversimplifying the testing, but are really as simple as that to get an initial idea for your guy's "investigation."

Sitting around and waiting for a sever outage and seeing if you can get 10,000 lag reports before you do anything is not going to fix this game. This should have been addressed weeks ago, but instead your loyal fanbase is left stressing and wasting their time with delay filled matches.

The most apparent (and completely unavoidable) sign of this lag compensation issue is that if you leave the assistive dialog on, everytime you take a draw you will lose it and it will say "slow timing"/"too slow" or whatever even though you pulled back the instant you saw the ref move his hand. This is pretty clear that my inputs are being delayed so that the person on the other end receives a smooth experience where I cannot make moves before they see them on their end.

Can this "investigation" pursue an active problem-solving approach rather than this passive 'do nothing unless the solution magically appears before us' method?

The thing is, those 2 people in Seattle could be on different ISPs. They could be using different routers and modems. They could have different settings, different amounts of traffic on their networks and in their neighborhood. We can't really replicate this.

This thread is long but is also mostly full of people repeatedly posting. It ends up being a relatively small number when compared with the whole community.

  • @EA_Aljo

I will quote you '' This thread is long but is also mostly full of people repeatedly posting. It ends up being a relatively small number when compared with the whole community.''

Dear NHL lovers, you are not alone. We have exactly the same issue on the FIFA side see this thread  : https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/WTF-is-up-with-input-delay/td-p/10872274/highlight/false/page/120 ..  So it's not a small number no more. It is all about the same company with more or less the same gamecode and same servers. Wouldnt be surprised if they have the SAME issue on Madden NFL and on the NBA game of EA.

It is time EA and also there CMS will start taking there customers seriously and start looking into the fact there is an issue and its not on the consumer side of things. It could be EA's Side (gamecode , Delay to even out connections with opponents. But it could also be routing issues on the AMAZON servers. Anyway it needs looking into by EA.

    @nelsonvanzuijlen

When you compare the players reporting lag to the ones that are not, it's heavily in favor of the ones that do not have lag. We still take these claims seriously and our servers are constantly monitored. I know it's very easy for everyone to place the blame on our servers, but they are just one part of everything that makes up the connection. We want you all to be able to play without lag, but seeing as we don't have complete control over the internet, we'll never be able to ensure a lag-free game.

  • @EA_Aljo  It took me 3 years to write my first complaint on a forum like this after having several live chats with EA where we always here the same story. It's our connection to blame. People including myself don't expect Ea to do something about the problem no more. This year however it seems different cause a lot MORE. People seem to experience these issues. So after 3 years of painfull gameplay i'm finally hoping for EA to investigate this. Cause there are issues. And after multiple years of testing i can tell you it is not my connection nor my provider or my monitor or my console or my router. Cause it tried multiple of all of those and the issues still persist.

Apart from that i want to thank you for replying on my post. I'm just hoping u will raise awareness within EA so something can finally be done and the problem can be resolved.

Edit: Here's my '' small list'' of the steps and equipment i bought to try and resolve the issue from ''my'' side. :

Over the last couple of years i tried 4 different (high end) gaming monitors ( all settings imaginable).

    7 different routers ( Netgear Xr 500, Netduma R2 , Asus AX88U , Fritzbox etc ( all settings imaginable).

    2 different internet providers ( KPN Fiber tried it with 1000/1000 , 500/500 , 200/200 , 100/100. And Ziggo Cable 300/30 and 200/20.

Tried more then 20 DNS servers.

Switched from Xbox to PS5 this year.

Despite trying everything and having perfect scores and perfect connection on ALL other games. Still Unplayable gameplay on FIFA.

  • @EA_Aljo

Not asking you to test every setup. No one here has asked that

All that has been asked is to test a couple of the theories proposed here since you guys have been unable to come up with anything yourselves.

Two players with very different distances from a server, all other variables held constant.

Two players in the same area near the server, with internet speed/wireless the only difference, all other variables held constant. Possibly one console located on an acreage with limited internet connection/reliability and the other in the city on a fast wired connection.

Then maybe repeat these two tests during peak and not popular hours to test how the server load affects them.

If you test these two things and witness input delay on one person's end with one of them, you have located the issue and can focus your efforts. If not you can eliminate our two leading theories.

But you're telling me that EA's approach is "this is too difficult to test so we won't do anything at all"????

What has happened to corporate accountability to its customers? Let us pay for this game and then all of us experience these issues but you won't do anything?

You set up this forum to deal with issues with the game only to receive a plethora of complaints of this exact issue (with anecdotes and empirical evidence supporting that more are facing this issue but just won't come to this page to post) and then proceed to do nothing about it.

Is this forum intended to gather together all the people passionate enough to fix these problems, and then just let them talk amongst themselves so that we might figure it out on our own?

"Monitor the servers"? That's all you guys can do?

Why doesn't the team test some of the leading theories and actually try something instead of just make up excuses to do nothing?

@Chaseinator5 Because they don’t want to use resources to test an issue that they don’t think affects enough people. They got our money and they string us along until the return period is past and we are stuck with a broken game. Isn’t it amazing that the 10 hour trial and for the first 2 weeks solid this game had zero delay? Now I can’t play it at all! Like you said, they need to think outside the box because “monitoring the situation “ sounds more like they are waiting for something to arise rather than being proactive and investigating WHY this is happening. What about sending out test units that capture all the data in game and we send it back for analysis? I don’t know I’m just trying to think how they can see what we see without coming to our houses and experiencing it for themselves. Regardless, there has been nothing asked of us besides gametags and isp’s and I don’t understand how that’s enough for them to investigate…to me it’s more like smoke and mirrors. If they ask us for some info it makes it look like they’re working on it when in reality the info they’re asking for doesn’t give them any insight into what’s really going on. I have $100 in points in my hut account and I would at least like that back…how do I got about that @EA_Aljo?

@Fredbooger I'm suprised they haven't checked to see if this has some relation to the constant synching issue that people experience. Games still get stuck in synching or players don't make it into games. Players see loading screens still while everyone else is still playing. My favorite was playing Squad Battles a game mode I usually do not play but had no one on for 6v6 so decided to give it a whirl. Tell me why in an offline game mode I got stuck on a synching screen. Obviously its not an internet connection at that point. The entire game kept going while I was stuck looking at a players face. I had to blindly get a stoppage in play (which I did somehow) to get the game to be viewable again. Pausing didn't work. Maybe they did test issues like that but I'm assuming if they did they aren't going to tell us or not enough people complain for them to care.

This issue is their servers and that they aren't capable of handling the amount of people that play their games. Case in point why the same server/ping plays differently every single game and at different points in the day. I was on COD earlier today and had a game of mid 50s ping and it was 100x smoother than 20 ping in nhl. The COD servers are just so much better it's not even funny. I generally get low 20s for ping in COD and it's butter smooth where I get 19-20 ping in NHL or Battlefield and it's a delayed mess. Battlefield is better than COD and I really don't have issues with it but still not on the same planet as COD. Battlefield currently having disastrous start to their game though with server issues. It's EA's fault no one has any issues with their internet these days.

  • @EA_Aljo what's your big explanation on an 84 overall Bergeron absolutely burning my 91 overall McDavid in a HUT Rivals game for a race to the puck? Both had full energy too as it was the start of the game.

@Nohtan I'll give it a try and say you weren't pushing in your left stick hard enough. You have to press it to the point of breaking or your controller is the issue cause it's definitely not input lag lol

@sinisterdisciple Lol seriously though, I shouldn't even have to hustle with a 91 McDavid to outskate an 84 Bergeron. Like how ridiculous is that lmao. I can't wait till this NHL is done with as I won't be spending another dime on HUT. And I suggest everyone in this thread do the same. And spread the word and write negative reviews. Also wait till Black Friday so you can get the game for almost half off! I still enjoy versus and offline modes so no point in spending extra money on a game mode that they won't fix and won't take accountability. I think there is like 30 people on this thread alone experiencing the same issue. I understand the EA team here interacting with us probably has some sort of legal binding on what they can/can't say so I can't blame them for anything. Our best bet as consumers is the above mentioned things that we can do as a whole. The only reason why I'm still playing HUT is because I bought the ultimate edition and paid 30 bucks for some packs at the beginning of the game.

@Nohtan Usually I buy the most expensive version of the game but not this year. I only play WOC 6v6 modes and if no one is on I'll hop over to HUT and just play offline modes. Not a dime spent.
